Theater FAQ

How can I add new theaters to Cinema Treasures?
Use the Add Theater page to submit new theaters to Cinema Treasures.

What if I don't have all the information you ask for?
Don't be intimidated by the long form... just tell us what you know. After all, Cinema Treasures is designed to let classic movie theater enthusiasts share their knowledge with others!

Are any fields on this page required?
Just the ones marked with a red asterix. Again, you can leave whatever you'd like blank. Of course, the more you know, the merrier. And, if you want to stay in touch with us, make sure you give us your name and email address.

What do you mean by "Status?"
By status, we mean is the theater currently open, closed, demolished, or being renovated.

What's the fastest way to get my theater on Cinema Treasures?
Write a good description! Seriously. The most time-consuming part of adding a new theater to Cinema Treasures is writing and editing the description. If you know anything about a theater, please write whatever you know in the description area of the Add Theater page. You'll save us a tremendous amount of time, and we'll be able to add your theater sooner!

How about "Style"?
By style, we mean the architectural style of the theater. If you don't know the style, just leave it blank.

What if I want to add a theater and submit photos at the same time?
Rock on! Just fill out the Add Theater form first and submit it. Once you've done that, you'll be given the option to send us photos. You might also wish to bookmark the Add Photo form in case you'd prefer to add photos at another time.

Have you thought about asking for additional theater information?
Yes. We've made space in our database for lots of additional theater information. While you cannot see some of this information today, as we roll out new versions of Cinema Treasures, it will eventually be published to the site. However, if you've got an idea for how we should expand this part of the site, please let us know.

The 'Edit' and 'Add' buttons don't work for me
These buttons (which are used throughout our Add Theater page) require Javascript to function. Please make sure you've enabled Javascript in your browser.

How can I remove a comment?
You can't. However, if you believe that the comment is clearly obscene (i.e. racist, sexual, profane) or off-topic, you can request that we review a comment for deletion. Once you contact us, we'll review the comment and decide whether or not to remove it.

Comments that do not meet this criteria will not be removed under any circumstances, so don't ask us to do this. If you have a problem with a comment that is not obscene or off-topic, please take it up with the original author of the comment by emailing them or responding directly to the comment -- do not email Cinema Treasures about it. We will not respond.

We created this policy because we do not have the time or resources to police user comments. Too, we believe that free and open discussion will create a stronger movie theater preservation community. Thus, any user of Cinema Treasures -- whether they are a moviegoer, theater owner, or theater chain executive -- is free to share their thoughts.

When will 'Add-A-Photo' return?
Cinema Treasures is currently in the planning stages on our new Add-A-Photo feature. Until now, we haven't supported adding new photos because we've been totally overwhelmed by the the growth of the site. With nearly 23000 theaters, adding photos manually would require several full-time volunteers -- something we can not afford. We realize it's been a long time since we disabled this feature, but we promise it will return as soon as possible. Please check the Add-A-Photo page for future updates about this feature.

Do you prefer "theater" or "theatre"?
Check our editing policy for the answer to that question.

Are there any guidelines I should follow?
Yes, when submitting new theaters, please make sure theater descriptions follow the guidelines set forth in our theater editing policy.
