Photograph FAQ
How can I add new photos to Cinema Treasures?
Use the Add Photo page to send your theater photos to Cinema Treasures. (Note: currently, we're not accepting photo submissions. Check back for updates.)
Can I email my photos to you?
Due to the large number of photos we receive (several each day), we can longer accept photo submissions via email. If, however, you have a large number of photos you'd like to send us, or you have some other type of special need, contact us and we will work with you to find the best way to submit your photos.
What file formats do you accept?
We prefer 100% compressed JPEGs, because they compress to small size, while preserving image quality as much as possible. However, we also accept BMP, PICT, and Photoshop files.
What size should my photos be?
640 pixels x 480 pixels, or higher. The larger the size, the better the quality. However, if you only have a smaller image, we'll still accept it. (A small photo is better than no photo at all, isn't it?)
Will you publish every photo I send you?
Not necessarily. Cinema Treasures selects photographs that best represent classic movie theaters. If your photo is blurry, poorly composed, or has other technical problems, we may not be able to post it.
How many photos can I submit at a time?
You can send up to 4 photographs at a time. If you need to send more than 4, you can just fill out the form again (use your browser's back button to retreive it).
How can I insure my photo will be published?
Take the best photo you can and make sure your scan is as clean and clear as possible! We urge you to take a look at some of the photos already on Cinema Treasures for ideas on composition, lighting, etc.
Will I be credited for use of my photograph?
Yes. You will receive a credit directly underneath your photo on the theater page where it appears.
Do I have to own a photograph to submit it?
No. As long as you have the permission from the original author to give us the photo, you don't need to own the photographs you submit. Also, if you have images that are in the public domain (old postcards, old magazines, etc.), we can use those too. We do not accept submissions that do not contain one or more of the following: notice of direct ownership, approval from the copyright holder, or notification that the photo is in the public domain.
Why are you so concerned about photo rights?
We want Cinema Treasures to be 100% focused on saving classic movie theaters--not getting tied up in sticky legal dilemmas because we used photos when we didn't have the right to do so.
What if I have hundreds of photographs that you might be interested in?
We'd love to work with you! Please contact us.
Who do I contact if I have additional questions about submitting photographs?
Just contact us.
When will 'Add-A-Photo' return?
Cinema Treasures is currently in the planning stages on our new Add-A-Photo feature. Until now, we haven't supported adding new photos because we've been totally overwhelmed by the the growth of the site. With nearly 23000 theaters, adding photos manually would require several full-time volunteers -- something we can not afford. We realize it's been a long time since we disabled this feature, but we promise it will return as soon as possible. Please check the Add-A-Photo page for future updates about this feature.
