Church wants to buy Chicago’s Portage Theater

CHICAGO, IL — The Portage Theater is on the market and the Chicago Tabernacle is interested in purchasing it. While they would be committed to extensively renovating it for the better, the loss of a cultural icon with such unique programming could be devastating.

Not only will it remove a cultural icon, it will also take the property off the tax rolls. Not a good thing for a city needing all the revenue it can get.
