American Theater to close this weekend

BRONX, NY — After a historic reopening five years ago, the American Theater is closing tomorrow. The stunning original lobby of the John Eberson gem stayed mostly intact all these years. But Bow-Tie, most recent operator of the cinema was not able to renew their lease. It was one of the only operating theaters in the Bronx. There are no announced plans on the building’s future.

Makes sense, as this theater lacked any digital projection….

There was a decision not to invest in digital projection because of the situation with the lease, and rightly so ! The landlord terminated the lease on very short notice to close the cinema and rent the space to TJ Max. Here are some photos during the last day of operation:
