SANTA MONICA, CA — With all the buzz about new ArcLights coming to Santa Monica, Laemmle didn’t want to be left behind. They’re proposing adding more screens but reducing overall seats in an effort to modernize the complex.

It is complete overkill to have 2 Arclights in Santa Monica.

Any ArcLight will spell the end for the AMC 7 and Broadway 4…unless they can play day and date for those who don’t want to pay ArcLight prices.

Also troublesome for the Laemmle. Look what the presence of the ArcLight did to the once popular Sunset 5 in it’s final Laemmle years.

I think the Laemmle will end up closing if BOTH Arclights happen. The Broadway cinemas are pretty much gone. I’d say a year from now it will be closed. I would say the AMC7 will close soon after because everyone would prefer to go the NEW THEATRE.

SAD TO HEAR… I like how Santa Monica still has the theatres on the Promenade and the Broadway marquee looks nice there…giving it the old downtown feel. The Laemmle there is nice also. Soon it will be one big ugly multiplex and a movie will be $16-20.
