DELRAY BEACH, FL — It appears the Delray Beach 18’s days are numbered as it’s set to close sometime to soon. Instead of being a victim of the digital conversion, the landlord of the Plaza of Delray just wants to build an LA Fitness in its place. The theatre opened 20 years ago as on of the first themed theaters of Muvico.

BUTLER, NJ — The Kinnelon 3 is soon to be no more as it will close May 27, a result of the Clearview acquisition that left out some theaters like the Headquarters 10. Memories of its nearly 40 year run will remain as its employees will relocate to the Kinnelon 8. Bow Tie did not plan to take the theaters like this one that are on month to month leases.

The Theatre Historical Society of America has announced the death of theater historian, David Naylor. Naylor was the author of numerous books including “Great American Movie Theaters” and “American Picture Palaces.” He was also a tremendous influence on Cinema Treasures. This site was created, in part, as a way for users to keep his 1987 book alive with updates in perpetuity.
RIP, Mr. Naylor and thank you.

LONDON, OH — The only theater in London has closed due to its inability to afford a digital projector. $250,000 had been sunk into the theatre the past few years but they didn’t have enough left for the conversion.

SILVER CITY, NM — Real West Cinema II is closing its doors next month due to operational costs. The owner estimated it would take $150,000 per screen to upgrade the projectors and seats.
