I’m trying to track down information on the firm of Reilly & Hall. They did a theater in Montclair, NJ in 1922 called the Wellmont that I’m going to be working on. Any info?

As a result of having recently visited the NYC area scoping out movie palaces, I got to talking to a friend of mine and the following question came up: ‘How many first-run, single screen cinemas are left in North America?’ (To be accurate, it was an offshoot of us trying to figure out if there were any of these movie houses still in operation in the Greater Toronto Area. Excluding ‘art houses’ or ‘rep theatres’, the answer was ‘No.’)
I’d be very curious to know the figure…I’m assuming it’s going to be an extraordinarily depressing one.

WAYNESBORO, VA — >
Since opening in 1926, Wayne Theatre has seen a full-scale remodeling in 1949 and a fire in 1980. After closing in 2000, Wayne found a new group of friends in the Wayne Theatre Alliance, and for the next month, those friends are commissioning volunteers to help prepare the former vaudeville theater for reconstruction.
The alliance has asked anyone interested to volunteer their time on Jan. 12, 19 and 26 to help with minor labor taking down partitions, cleaning debris and sweeping to expedite the rebuilding process. Once the theater is cleaned, excavation and construction of the fly loft and stage wings can begin. Anyone older than 18 is invited to help, and no level of construction experience will be turned away. Skilled labor is not required, but the alliance has asked that volunteers notify the alliance before coming. Calls will be taken Monday through Friday every week and volunteers will be informed what to wear, when to arrive and any tools necessary. The Wayne Theatre Association Alliance can be contacted at 540 943-9999.

Both movie theatres were a haven for me as a child and adolescent and judging from responses on this website, they meant a great deal to many others as well.
If anyone has photos, or ads or stories they would like to share, I would of course give full credit. I am especially looking for any exterior and interior photos.
You can reach me .

I’m in NYC and surrounding environs from Jan 3-8th and could use some advice and suggestions as to what cinemas to check out. Most interested in old single-screeners still operating, but am also wanting to do some walk-bys to take some photos for non-adventuring friends around the world.

I founded and run a 501c3 nonprofit historical society that is looking at some property in San Francisco to lease or buy for our offices and headquarters. It is a three story building built in 1909 and the ground floor is a theater that is vacant and needs some work.
For the last 20 years, it was a video store, so the seats are gone. It is not a big or super fancy theater, there is no marquee on the building and it is about 1,995 square feet in size. My guess is that it was probably used as a small, independent type of theater at one time. It is in a very good location in San Francisco, at the edge of their entertainment/North Beach district where a lot of tourists go.
Our plans are to use the upper two floors and turn the theater into a business of some sort to generate income, either through leasing it or going in with someone on it. My nonprofit is small, and if we do get into the property it will take all we have to make that happen. I would need a business of some type in the theater fast as we would not be in a position to let it sit empty.

I am trying to reopen a closed Carmike theatre that is about 95 percent ready to reopen. I was wondering if anyone could give me pointers with the business plan or if anyone has one that they don’t mind me taking a look at.
If you can help me email me at.
