Tropic returns to downtown
LEESBURG, FL — Downtown Leesburg is excited because of the reopening of the Tropic Theatre. Veteran owner Russ Brannan has spruced up the place and with lower prices than local competing mall theaters, it should provide a well-welcomed entertainment option.

Opening date and movies announced for Nordica
FREEPORT, ME — A new state-of-the-art cinema is opening up this Friday called the Nordica Theatre, in honor of its long gone predecessor. They’ll have digital projection, plush seating and the standard amenities.

Sundance Cinemas widening its reach
HOUSTON, TX — As reported in April Sundance Cinemas is taking over the former Angelika. The official site lists the Grand Opening as November 23rd. The theatre will sport new amenities such as reserved seating.
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — And that’s not the only theatre being refurbished and reopened by Sundance. The Los Angeles Times reported last week that the Laemmle Sunset 5 will close at the end of this month and reopen under the Sundance banner next year.

New theater opens in Ozark
OZARK, MO — A new theater is coming to the Ozarks with the opening of the B&B Ozark Friday. Features include leather seats, digital projection and the largest theater having a 53 foot screen.

Movie theater at Opry Mills to reopen week of Nov. 18
NASHVILLE, TN — Heavily damaged in the flood last year, the Regal Opry Mills 20 & IMAX is reopening next week. There will be charity events in the days leading up to the opening of this anchor tenant of the mall.

Theater reopens in Willows
WILLOWS, CA — Andy’s Theater reopened the other week to much fanfare. The community has banded together and put loads of hours to bring it back and it’ll still take a major effort to keep it open. They’re on the right track though.

Short North theater to make ‘Follies’ into fortune

COLUMBUS, OH — The Garden Theatre reopened its doors the other week with a run of ‘Follies’. Staging the production is one of the first steps in raising money to restore the theatre for future engagements.

A dried out Latchis Hotel and Theater will reopen

BRATTLEBORO, VT — Hurricane Irene can only keep the Latchis Theatre down so long. They’re stepping up repairing the water and electrical damage so it can reopen by November.

Bijou Theatre rebirth

BRIDGEPORT, CT — After tireless work by its new owner, the Bijou reopened last weekend. They hope for it to be the centerpiece of a new downtown.

Neptune grand re-opening

SEATTLE, WA — Even though they had what they now call a “soft opening” a few months back, there are still more celebratory engagements planned for the recently restored Neptune Theatre.The Seattle Times reports that they will have a Grand Re-opening on September 25 along with a full season of live events to showcase the venue.
