KALAMAZOO, MI — Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas has announced that their new Kalamazoo location in the renovated former Rave CityPlace will open on November 18. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 19. This is Alamo Drafthouse’s first Michigan location.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI — The Bijou by the Bay officially opened on October 18 with the classic 1939 film “Gone With The Wind.” Admission for the weekend shows are $5 and a community celebration is planned for November 21. A schedule of films at the theater can be found at their official website.

LA CIOTAT, FRANCE — Home of the first presentations of early films by the Lumiere Brtohers, the Eden Theatre has reopened following extensive renovations. Opening in 1889, the building hasn’t had consistent usage in over thirty years. The theatre will now house a permanent exhibition to these pioneers of film along with regular film screenings.

MUSKEGON, MI — The 90+ year-old Harbor Cinema is back in business following some extensive renovations. Now under new ownership, the theatre has an updated concessions area, digital projection, and a newly-painted lobby. The theatre will get back to showing first-run films and locals couldn’t be happier with the results.

RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ — After closing in May, the Ridgefield Park 12 is reopening under the watch of new owner, Staplex Cinemas. They plan on starting up shop in the next few weeks following the addition of all digital projection, Real-D 3D and new luxurious seats.

GARNER, IA — The Avery Theatre has finally reopened after 40 years following extensive renovations. They’re trying to bring crowds in with family friendly pricing of $4 for adults and $3 for children. They even have a party room available for rent upstairs.
Locals seems to be loving having the cinema option back after the 1931 theatre spent years as a pharmacy.

BALTIMORE, MD — There’s been no shortage of activity the past few years at the Senator Theatre from ownership changes to restoration. A look at the theater’s page on this site reveals a list of news links too lengthy to even choose from.
Hopefully, all the news will be positive from here forward as the theatre is scheduled to reopen October 10 with a throwback to one of its finest moments, a screening a of John Waters' “Hairspray.” It had its premiere there 25 years ago.

SANTA FE, NM — The Jean Cocteau Cinema reopened the other week after it was announced in April that George R.R. Martin (“Game of Thrones”) had purchased it. Right now it looks like they will focus on classics and art-house fare. It had been closed since 2006.

GLENDALE, CA — Delays due retrofitting made the wait longer than expected but Glendale’s luxury Five Star Cinema is now open in the former Mann Exchange 10. Like local competitor iPic, Five Star aims to bring patrons in with in-theater dining and plush seats with a call button. Their tickets are about $10 less expensive though.

They already have an official web site for the new Alamo Drafthouse Kalamazoo at with Facebook and Twitter links. It will be Alamo Drafthouse’s first location in Michigan.
