Owners of the State Theatre Actively Seeking New Owner
ANDERSON, IN — The owners of the State Theatre are actively seeking someone to purchase or lease (long term) the theater. The State is a classic style movie palace that seats 1250+ and opened for business on May 30th, 1930. It was the first theater built with air conditioning in the state of Indiana.

DC’s Visions Cinema Bistro Bar To Close Tomorrow
I received an email today, part of the weekly programming newsletter, that Washington, DC’s Visions Cinema Bistro Bar (formerly the Loew’s Embassy Theater) will be closing this weekend after four years of operation. It seems they were losing a lot of money for the last year and a half. Here is the email text received today:

Recently there have been many rumors circulating that Visions bar noir is going to close. Sadly, we must now confirm that the rumors are true.

“Cinema Treasures” Authors On Restore Radio
Ross Melnick and Andreas Fuchs, co-authors of the forthcoming book, “Cinema Treasures,” will be on the air from 9:00 – 10:00 pm EST on “Restore Radio,” Maureen Nevin’s program on Asbury Park radio station 88.1 FM. The show is also broacast simultaneously over the Internet by logging onto http://live.asburypark.net/liveradio.asx.
Restore by the Shore (Restore Radio for short) is a popular, local talk radio show that broadcasts every Thursday night from 8:00pm – 10:00 PM out of Asbury Park. Every week the show tackles political and cultural issues and features authors, performers, historians, artists – anyone with something interesting to say. Shortly after the show airs on radio and internet, it is available again for listening over the archives.

Metro Theatre To Reopen As An Art House
NEW YORK, NY — The recently shuttered Metro Twin has been taken over by a new tenant who plans to convert the Art Deco movie theater into an art house with wider screens and other upgrades, according to David Freeland in the New York Press.
According to his report, “A soon-to-be-named ‘celebrity operator’ has been hired to run the theater and scout out cutting-edge films from around the world. If all goes according to plan, the new Metro could be unveiled as early as November.”

Looking for a Theater
I live in New England and I’m looking for an old theater currently doing nothing but sitting in a community that may or may not have expressed an interest in getting it up and running again… or just waiting for the right person to ‘get the wheels in motion’. Any help?

We have digital photos of the seats, and are offering them for $50 USD per chair (down from $59)."

“This Is Cinerama” Returns To The Cinerama Dome!
HOLLYWOOD, CA — The following email was sent in by filmmaker, and Cinerama historian, David Strohmaier:
“‘This Is Cinerama’ The film that began widescreen in 1952 returns to the Cinerama Dome for two performances only. The film will be shown in its original 3-projector 7-channel surround sound format on the Dome’s giant full 90 foot wide curved screen.
Showing Thursday evening October 21st at 7:00 PM and again on Saturday Morning October 23rd at 10:00 AM.
The following special shorts and extras will be featured after the performance of ‘This Is Cinerama’:

Restoration of Fox Tucson Coming Along
TUCSON, AZ — The restoration project to bring the 74 year-old Fox in downtown Tucson back to life after years of neglect is progressing slowly but surely, according to the Tucson Citizen.
With the work on the exterior of the theater nearing completion, including the restoration and relighting of the historic marquee, the work is now beginning on the interior of the Fox. The first phase of the restoration of the inside of the building includes the lobby spaces, the balcony level and the basement.

Preservation Group Lists Five Chicago Movie Houses On Endanged List
CHICAGO, IL — The Landmark Preservation Council of Illinois’s annual Watch List includes five Chicago movie theaters on its list of Chicago-area endangered buildings: the Uptown, the New Regal (Avalon), the Gateway, the Patio, and the Central Park.
The list, which first appeared two years ago, complements the Council’s Ten Most Endangered Historic Places in Illinois. Other non-theater buildings on the Chicago-area list in danger of demolition include buildings in Evanston formerly part of Northwestern University, the River Forest Women’s Club (designed by a former associate of Frank Lloyd Wright), and an estate in Highland Park designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw and Jens Jensen on the National Register of Historic Places.
