I’ve uploaded new photo of the Coliseum, now in arather sorry state but they are still hoping to reopen. The new commitee are hopefull of securing a grant to refurbish the building. But I have not heard mention of going digital, not being what you would call (cinema people) I hope they realise there is no option, or at least there won’t be in the near future.

Thanks for that info, I’m losing touch since retiring, I had no idea that VUE had taken over Apollo.

My friend’s wife who was originally from Wrexham once mentioned that her dad was a projectionist in that town, and it had a corrugated roof and she told me about having to turn up the sound fader during rain and of course hailstorms ! Not the Odeon Wrexham, that’s for sure !!

Hello David,I’ve only just seen your postings, as this photo is my first view of the building I’ve no idea of the door’s colour.I think most of the Paramount Circuit’s doors & windows were blue. The late Bill Kenny worked there as a young relief projectionist in the early 50’s, he was at the time the 2nd at the Palladium, his hobby then was photography and although he took quite a few pictures of the locality none of the cinema. mind you he went there reluctantly & I guess you did not argue with your bosses in those days !

I’ve uploaded a photo of the BTH type A projectors,at the Town Hall Cinema Pwllheli, changed to Westar in 1990. If you want to look up this cinema it’s now named Neuadd Dwyfor Pwllheli. Just click on photos for the picture.

I saw a news item on Welsh tv when there was local interest in trying to reopen it, but nothing came of that, I was told by our service engineer that equipment had been installed, as I beleive Moore had inquired to him about parts. Whereabouts are your cinemas Mike ?

Thanks for the picture Mike, I’ve never been inside the building but I did know of the overhanging projection box.I had wondered if it may have been the extension on the right (although it’s not in the centre) I had no idea of the length ot the auditorium and although the slate roof comes down the other end it has to be longer than that. I’d like to go inside, but Blaenau is not a town I often visit, because it’s not a place you have to go near when travelling from Pwllheli to other places. if you know what I mean,I’m sure it’s still unused.

We had many a run in with the fire officers, if they happened to visit our place first of an evening the then chief would send me down to the other cinema in town that he was on the prowl ! I still like the idea of a fire escape from the box though, it’s not just a fire in the proj room that could get you, especially at our place, one would have to use the same stairs as the audience.

Thanks Mike, must have been nice to know the fire escape was there, as where I worked The Town Hall Cinema in Pwllheli had none, and was almost twice as high. They did build one in the seventies but only down to a room underneath the flat roof, so you’re still inside the building.

As I was in Litchfield today for the first time ever, I thought I’d take a photo of what now stands on the old Adelphi site.

I was in Litchfield on my first ever visit today,I’ve uploaded a couple of photos.I was surprised to see that the steps up to the box has no barrier, rather tempting & hazardous for children I would have thought. I wonder if this was the only entrance to the projection suite or just a fire escape.

I’ve uploaded a couple of pictures of this theatre, I was very keen to go inside as I once visited it when it was still a cinema. It was in 1962, my pal & I saw “Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea” I think it was then a second run picturehouse. I think the film starred Walter Pidgeon & Peter Lorre, then ageing stars.

Had to rush a bit in photographing the pictures I’ve just uploaded, our coach driver was only able to give me a couple of minutes, hence why I was unable to go round the side to catch the main entrance. I did'nt even notice that car.
