From what I heard from my dad, he went to the Wellmont to see David Bryne and enjoyed the show….although it’s not great as a rock auditorium when compared with other movie theaters turned venues. As for this theater…it’s past its prime, with the big fish now showing major art house movies (AMC has AMC Select, for example). It’s also the only art house theater left in Montclair, with the two-screen Screening Zone gone. Too bad they don’t have 3-D (Bellevue has it) if there were any 3-D indie or doc movies.

Rockaway and most theaters in NJ missed out on showing the Michael Jackson funeral…the closest theater I found was in Chelsea, Manhattan, NY.

Good news Mets fans….Mets at the Movies will be showing at this theater.

Based on the success of the Mets at the Movies series at this theater, Clearview is expanding it to other theaters, including Chelsea and Parsippany, near where I live. They might do the same with Rangers games as well.

Good news for Mets fans…this theater will show a Mets game next week as part of the Mets at the Movies program, which consists of a live HD feed of the baseball game streaming from a cable box courtesy of Cablevision, baseball-themed food and ushers, and of course, die hard baseball fans yelling at the auditorium as if it were a game. I’d hope they do Yankees but seems that SNY has the advantage over YES since they have a deal with Clearview and Cablevision to show these games to audiences that are smaller than the stadium or who can’t make it to the game due to traffic.

How has this theater been doing since it opened? I think it has changed since Clearview upgraded its theaters that surround that place with digital projection (2k,pretty soon 4k to compete against AMC). At least there won’t be any fake IMAX theaters around here soon (save for one in Danbury, Connecticut). I’m so looking forward to going to the IMAX at the Muvico Xanadu theater, whenever that’s done.

As of right now, the longest running movie this summer at this theater has only one showtime left…Star Trek. Come friday, it will pass the torch to Up 2D, then the Hangover, and finally Transformers 2, which has struggled this past weekend due to increased competition from Ice Age 3 and the new Johnny Depp movie.

Ticket Kiosks are pretty cool at my AMC, there are several around the outside of the AMC in Rockaway, and inside there are four or so ATM machines. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.

The same company that is building the new theater in Secaucus is also planning to build and open a 16-screen stadium seating Kerasotes theater in Edison. Once that opens, this theater might close.

That’s good to hear…and pretty soon not too far from there another towering hulk of a theater will arrive….Xanadu. That thing will have a real IMAX screen, unlike other theaters that have mini versions of the famous format.

From what I heard from my stepmom, most of the employees who went to that showing loved it. That movie did better than anyone expected to be. Since AMC took over, do they still do those “COming Attractions” screenings? I used to like it when they had it at this theater and other nearby Loews/Sony locations. I think in order to bring moviegoers back to Wayne, they should retrofit the seats to be stadium seating and add 4k DLP to every screen, in order to compete against Clearview’s Wayne Preakness, which has one DLP screen and is doing fine business and better security than this large towering megaplex.

When that theater is done, the Kerasotes theater will have all screens with DLP 3D projection and stadium seating (similiar to Clearview’s August debut of the Hoboken 5 plex). The only real competition will be the bigger Muvico Xanadu 18 plex with a real IMAX screen, whenever that’s done.

According to the official Moviewatcher newsletter from AMC, the critically acclaimed Iraq war movie The Hurt Locker will play at this theater next week, alongside other major releases. I plan on seeing Public Enemies next weekend with my Aunt that weekend. That movie Michael Mann was shot first on HD cameras, just like his last few recent movies, such as Collateral and Miami Vice, which were good. Too bad it will take a few years before all of the 16 screens will be ultra-HD and bring audiences back into the theater, as ticket sales have been slow. One reason…no 3D movies.

Has anyone had complaints at this theater? From what I attended the past couple of screenings, there are far and few between. From people saying the picture’s out of focus to fire alarms ringing, there are quite a few. At the Clearviews, there are no complaints.

BTW, there’s no email response to get to AMC to question about when the digital projection gets installed.

On the Baristanet website, there’s an article by a local moviegoer critic praising the theater as the one with the best sound and best picture in North Jersey. Just google “clifton commons” (one of the sister theaters) on the Google News website and there will be an article about this guy, who does 10-minute video reviews on Youtube.

When Transformers 2 opened this past weekend, all the IMAX shows were sold out. THe same could be said for the IMAX digital locations on 34th street and in Times Square. Harry Potter 6 will play only in this theater the day it opens before it expands to other IMAX theaters in the area, from what I heard, the opening scene is in 3D while the rest of the scenes are in 2d.

Up is still playing in 3D on one screen while Ice Age 3D is playing on several screens and the 2D version too. I plan on going there this weekend to see “Ice Age 3D”. I saw the first one in one of the smaller auditoriums with Ultra Stereo sound and 35mm projection the week after it opened. The second one I saw on DVD, and thought it was OK, but not as good as the first one. Hopefully the third one is the best.
