what happened to the classics program at this theater? Will it return? Since the program was gone, attendance is not what it used to be since the AMC in Rockaway opened.

any word on when this theater gets dlp? Seems that this theater, one of the three most popular Clearviews, is behind the times. Does their preshow still have film? The AMC in Rockaway has more to offer than the one in Mansfield, and Regal just added DLP in its Pohatcong location, making Succasunna the closest location for digital projection.

during its heyday, this theater, along with Clearview’s Parsippany theater, were the most popular ‘plexes in the county, only to be dethroned by the AMC in Rockaway.

this was the longest running theater in Northwest Jersey, right? The oldest right now has to be Madison.

btw, how is parking where the old triplex used to be? Seems that more cars can go in there and get to the movies!!!

it’s been a few weeks since turkey day, and it’s still closed. AMC Garden State 16 is the successor to this theater, which someone working for ct will ad to the summary soon.

moviebuff82 commented about Allwood Cinemas 6 on Dec 4, 2007 at 1:32 pm

When clearview acquired the allwood, they introducted a pre-show before each movie that played at the six-plex, courtesy of Screenvision. I first noticed this before a screening of “Space Jam” at the theater, as well as another Clearview theatre in Wayne, during a screening of “Star Trek First Contact”. Nowadays, Clearview’s more popular theaters use a digital pre-show as opposed to the analog, which was renamed “The Clearview”. Does the Allwood still use analog pre-show or digital? Seems that this theater will no longer survive and needs a renovation just like theatres with fewer than 10 screens owned by the chain, those that were build after the golden age of hollywood and before that.

i agree with you. My bad. The Chinese is to West Coast moviegoers what the Ziegfeld is to East Coast moviegoers; both are favorite places for movie premieres.

very funny. Real D is no Imax 3d, since Imax 3d is still my favorite 3d format of all time.

yet another cinema treasure being overtaken by rich people. Look at the Ziegfeld, another theater now run by corporate bums. Once a great theater, now plays junk.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Celebration 2 on Dec 3, 2007 at 10:55 am

not only that, but once in awhile a Disney movie plays there, as is the case with the studio’s newest hit “Enchanted”. Same goes for Universal, which sometimes shows its best movies at theaters near its theme parks in Florida and Hollywood.

must’ve been some fire that forced the theater to rebuild as a twin soon after. Yet another twin theater in America that is being killed by the megaplexes.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC 84th Street 6 on Dec 3, 2007 at 10:50 am

i agree, markl. Even the AMC in Rockaway, a year old theater, can’t afford the money drawn from concession sales to drive the purchase of a new Real D system. I saw it before the Nightmare release and it’s better than IMAX 3-D at the lincoln square theater. Seems that the 84th street is acting up like its bigger brother. The only downside is that both complexes don’t have stadium seating, which AMC’s mammoth Empire 25 has, even though it’s not located in a crowded area like Times Square.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Celebration 2 on Dec 3, 2007 at 10:47 am

how many seats does each theater serve? I guess they’re big. And the theater’s been around for more than 10 years, and it’s doing well because it has stadium seating, digital sound, and all the perks of a modern AMC theater. The only downside is that only two movies can be shown on its two screens.

there should be a policy on spammers on CT, just like what Myspace and other sites use. Thankfully, no porn messages on this site!!!

this is not the only amc theater to have two screens with digital projection. The AMC in Paramus has two and the clifton commons has two.

Yeah, like if someone like me gets comments to theaters I don’t want to read up to date about. That’s like spam!!! I only read comments to theaters I’ve been to in my life. Just click on remove this thread post in the email thing and that’s it. You can also leave the checking box alone if you don’t want your comment read by so many people.

This past weekend, Beowulf is now only playing in Parsippany in digital 3d. I’m not sure if Golden Compass will be playing in DLP, since that projector can do both. BTW, is attendance at this theater up or down one year since Rockaway opened?

moviebuff82 commented about Cinepolis Succasunna on Dec 2, 2007 at 10:26 am

Just went to this theater to see Fred Claus on Friday night, and the place was not that packed!!! Seems like the lack of a 3d showing of Beowulf was to blame, as the film is being shown only in 2d. I went to theater 5, the largest of the 10 screens, and the seats are more comfortable than the last time I was there nearly two years ago. Sound is still Dolby Digital EX, and projection is still decent with the digital preshow. The prices, though, were stupid. Tickets went up to $10.25, and the Super Combo is a dollar and a half more than it was nearly two years ago. Plus they use real popcorn instead of the kernelless popcorn that AMC uses. The acoustics are not on par with Rockaway 16, with sound still bleeding into the other theater.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway 16 on Dec 2, 2007 at 10:20 am

Just checked out the amc website for the upcoming Hannah Montana 3D movie, and guess what…amc rockaway isn’t one of them. Seems like next year rockaway will get 3d after its competitors got it first. To me, 3D movies would be expensive and cost too much for the average person living in a low-income suburb like Rockaway, compared with more trafficked areas like Parsippany, Clifton, Paramus, and even Succasunna. Even Clearview’s Mansfield theater isn’t fit for 3d, just that other Warren County theater, the Pohatcong, that has digital (and that’s a Regal, which is AMC’s #1 competitor in the megaplex business). BTW, what is the #1 16 screener owned by AMC? Let me know…

what you do mean by scores? And why did you get fired from the amc in rockaway? Did you used to work at the old AMC in Rockaway before it was closed down? Anyways, it seems that the theater is the number one attraction at the mall these days since it opened in late 2006. I’m sure this coming summer will be a good one for the theater.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway Inner 6/Outer 6 on Dec 2, 2007 at 7:55 am

I still have a ticket from the old AMC in Rockaway back in the spring of 2001, my only visit to that theater. The price of a matinee showing was $5; since the rockaway 16 opened, it’s jumped nearly 50%. The color of the ticket was blue instead of the red (the blue is only used for advanced tickets), and was the amc in rockaway the first to have advance ticketing in morris county? Back then, amc used to own two theaters, one of which was sold to clearview and still operates to this day (morristown). The movie I went to was on the last day of March of 2001, a 1:40 p.m. showing in theater #3. Was that theater the largest of the 12?

I watched a bit since I was busy watching college football. It was ok. Better to go see it in person at the hall than watching it in HD!!! When will MSG re-air that great doc on the history of the hall? Let me know so I can watch it again….is it also on demand on the Cablevision systems?
