I do this for hobby too myself. I am 87 years old I like doing this. Dont fight its not good for anyone makes your blood pressure go high I should know. Lets be friends and help each other.
Tom……I have no other way to contact you so unfortunately I have to write this here. This is a quote from a message that you posted in the Boyd theater section. “Many good contributors to this site have left because of petty squabbles and an unfriendly atmosphere”. Well, your doing exactly what you complained about. Your helping to create an “unfriendly atmosphere”. Trying to humiliate Charles in a public forum is not my idea of creating a “friendly” atmosphere. In fact, its childish and counter productive to what this site is about.
Like Charles, I also do this as a hobby. I am not a “pro” like you and some of the others on here. If we make mistakes, they are not intentional. You can correct peoples mistakes without being mean spirited about it. No one should have to be afraid to post info that they believe is accurate because someone will jump all over them if the info turns out to be incorrect. This isn’t a contest of which person knows more than the other person. Whatever your gripe might be with Charles, get over it. A hobby is supposed to be enjoyable. I can’t speak for Charles, but I don’t need this nonsense. If this is how it is going to be on here, I will find a new hobby.
I have no intention of offending anyone. In twenty five years you must have accrued a tremendous amount of theatre knowledge. I would expect your posts and theatre descriptions to be impeccable and flawless with your amount of experience. I also have a similar number of years doing theatre research. Perhaps we should critique each others posts to make sure the data we add is always accurate. What do you say to my proposal Charles? We will also make sure that no data posted is taken ‘word for word’ from a theatres history site. We wouldn’t want to set a bad example for the other members here.
Some free advice for everyone here. Use library data with caution. Most theatre data contained in a library is not current. Use it as a starting point but do not base all of your knowledge on it.
Thanks Don, but I am not easily offended. This has been a hobby for more than 25 years now and I enjoy if tremendously. I have learned a lot from others postings and have posted a lot from my research. The site is for the enjoyment of all who have a soft spot for Cinema Treasures. I tried to put the information on the Palace Theatre as much as possible into my own words and description so if I missed something then I am more than pleased that someone out there can fill in the blanks. As you know Don most of my info comes from the library in the towns that I have been in while on downtime from my commercial pilot job. Sometimes there is more information on the internet but I am happy that others can fill in what I have missed. That’s the purpose of this site. And I might add a great site at that.
I did not accuse anyone of ‘plagiarism’. My comment read in part; ‘no one would want to be accused of plagiarism’. Since Charles; as you phrased it ‘is a walking reference book of movie theater trivia, info and pictures’. Perhaps he would be willing to share his vast knowledge as I have many theatre questions that I would like to find answers to. Perhaps one day I will also be a ‘walking reference book of movie theater trivia, info and pictures’. One can only hope.
Plagiarism???…..Personal experience tells me that Charles Van Bibber is a walking reference book of movie theater trivia, info and pictures!!

You seem to have omitted some data. Wise choice since no one would want to be accused of ‘Plagiarism’.

The stucco exterior of 1936 brought a major distinction to the Palace: it is reported by the Georgetown Heritage Society to be the only building of the Art Deco period found in Georgetown”.
