During the 30’s – 40’s the United Artists Long Beach was operated by Fox West Coast Theatres. During the early to mid 50’s United Artists Theatres operated it till the Mitchell Brothers chain took control of this an a few other UA houses. (Four Star, Inglewood Theatres).

One summer day in 1969 I strolled into this theater to see Peter Sellers' hilarious comedy “The PARTY” (1968) and “A SHOT IN THE DARK” (1964) on a double-feature bill. It was great fun, the theater was in good shape then, and besides, it was air conditioned and it was hot outside.
The UA was located at 217 E. Ocean Blvd.
The architects for this theater were Walker & EIsen, along with C.A. Balch.
I last saw this theatre still standing in the Spring of 1981. The next time I visited Ocean Ave., in the Summer of 1983, it was gone, though the Roxy, State, Imperial, and Fox West Coast, and the Palace,on Pine, were still standing.
