It was much better as the Fox Plaza. Being hidden in the back corner made parking horrible. There was plenty of parking on the Mill Rd. side, but the entrance there was not used. The rooms are small and cramped and the conditions you have described are mainly due to being frequented mostly by teens. Anyone old enough to drive usually goes to the Stadium instead.

Regal has this one and it’s open on their website.

Rumor has it that this theater is haunted. Back in the 1950’s / 1960’s (not sure of the date) when this was the Fox Plaza Twin, sone spy or war criminal was stabbed in the back and murdered there during the showing of a movie.

i was there over the weekend , the place was noticeably cleaner , although on several seats i tested the springs were shot. also , only 1 of the cinemas was more than ¼ full , and the rest only had about 10 patrons. it could be the end, although the girl at the popcorn counter said they may be looking at the adjacent and now closed toys-r-us store to expand to. time will tell….

This only opened a few years ago as a multi-plex and they ran it down already? UA is one of a kind, are they not. I am suprised though with such few theatres in SI, there is not enough business to go around. What ever happened to the Lane?

it is now the ua hylan plaza, with 5 screens.the last time i visited, about 6 months ago,it was being run by a staff of teenagers and had become somewhat run down (one of the screens had a stain, etc.) this and the other current theatres on s.i. took a major hit when the stadium 16 opened.

I beleive it’s stil operating as a multiplex hidden in the hylan plaza mall complex.

Believe it is still operating but has been multiplexed beyond recognition. Remember it being the first new theater in a long time on Staten Island. Joan Crawford even made an appearance at the grand opening celebration in the mid 60’s. The fim was Disney’s The Ugly Dachshound.

sorry but this theater has been closed for years, another S.I. casualty of the megaplexes being built and operated in the borough.
