Too bad. It was one of the few theaters in the area that showed independent and foreign films.

There are 3 screens seating 77/23/30. Here is an article about the theater, part of it has been re-purposed as condos. The theater building itself was not demolished.

Jumped the gun a bit. Theater closed on Monday November 11th. It is a nice space. Hope someone else takes it over. Lowering the admission price a bit would be good.

Krakatoa East of Java opened on Wednesday June 26, 1969 at the Cinerama in Manhattan. I checked the opening add using NewYork Times Time Machine. Nothing is mentioned concerning reserved seats or reserved performances. There were 4 shows daily at 11:30 AM, 2:30, 5:30 & 8:30 PM. Extra performance on Friday & Saturday at 11:30 PM.

Thanks for the correction. I did use the Regal site. Even still the theater seat count seems low for Manhattan. Curious if the theater will attract larger attendance than the Regal Battery Park. When I lived in Manhattan that was my theater of choice even though it was out of my way. I would stay clear of the Times Square theaters as well as the 34th Street (I lived on 30th & 9th before Hudson Yards made the neighborhood too expensive) and the Kips Bay which both seem to attract the bridge and tunnel crowd.

My seat count on the RPX Screen 12 is incorrect. This screen has 144 seats. There are 7 rows total with 6 of those rows with 21 seats. Sorry for the erroneous information in the previous post.

The seat count for the theaters (included handicap spots}: 1. 74 2. 63 3. 74 4. 71 5. 74 6. 74 7. 74 8. 63 9. 74 10. 70 11. 73 12. 75 RPX 13. 70 14. 74

From the seating chart, the theaters are all wider than long.

“Heaven’s Gate” played for 7 days, then was replaced by “Apocalypse Now” as a re-release. This must of left the management scurrying to find a holiday replacement for one of the premiere theaters on the East Side.
