Looks like they had a huge screen. I remember they screened a lot of Disney films.

TheAlan I grew up in AC and at least from 67 until it closed it was the Beach. The Embassy and Shore were two different theaters. The Embassy was part of the Apollo circuit chain along wioth the Strand and Apollo later sold to the dreadful Frank Theaters. The Shore along with the Hollywood, Center, Roxy and Virginia were part of the George A Hamid chain which also owned the Steel Pier and Million Dollar Pier.

The Alan when AC got the casinos the town went to sleeze. Casino’s totally changed the whole city. It went from a fun seaside resort with 12 movie theaters to zero in a few years. It’s not the same town it was growing up.

I agree with you Vito. I didn’t pick up that the delivery was the digital film. I am glad I lived in NYC from 76-83 and had many wonderful times at the Ziegfeld.

Loving the new USPS commercial that highlights the great marquee and wonderful larger screen. I would assume Spiderman 2 will have it’s premiere here.

Great picture rivoli157. I remember it well. It opened August 15 after Sweet Charity which was basically a flop. Many theaters that showed Charity ended it and opened with Krakatoa East of Java.

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Strand Theatre on Mar 21, 2014 at 6:55 am

In the late 60’s and 70’s it was run by Apollo Circuit Theaters. When Frank theaters purchased the chain they did not get the Strand. In 1974 the named was changed to Talkies and showed old classics. In 1975 it was run by a gentlemen named Lero from Phila and changed back to the Strand. They ran The Towering Inferno all summer with a Fri and Sat midnight showing of the Divine flick Pink Flamingos. IN 1976 the theater changed hands again and operated until the late 80’s.

The theater was not twined until the late 70’s. Saw Earthquake there and Midway. The last season as a single theater it went to a dollar discount theater. One of the opening features as a twin was Kramer Vs Kramer. Please UPDATE overview information.

Does anyone know if this was the actual theater the Glee Nationals episode was filmed? They showed the outside and the inside was beautiful .

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Eric Theatre on Mar 17, 2014 at 3:32 pm

It could have been the early 80’s because the McDade drive-in closed after the 1983 season. I do know I saw the Hindenburg here and it was a single screen theater. Of course I could be mixing it up with the Eric Pilgrim Gardens which was always a single theater.

It opened as a single thetaer when they closed the McDade Drive in sometime around 1983.It was twined in the late 80’s Not sure when it went to 4 screens. Was not the best theater around.

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Connecticut could be first state to curb loud movies on Mar 12, 2014 at 4:00 pm

And when people get hearting problems from the over loud theaters I certainly hope they sue the MPAA. Another thing that is out of control is the 20-30 minutes previews before a movie.

It was Tampa’s most beautiful theater when it opened. Beautiful purple drapes on all walls and purple crtians that coved all the screens. I hate Carmike cinemas I think they are one of the worst theaters chainsin the business.

This is even more reason to SAVE THE BOYD so Phila will have another great theater. I PICS idea stinks and is not in the best interest of the city.
