The building had apartments in the upper floors. It is showcased in the original movie Fame. When they built the hotel the only thing that was left of the Palace was the auditorium. The lobby and enterance with the old beautiful marquee was all torn down.The theater was closed for at least 4-5 years. It was reopened in 1991 with The Will Rogers Follies.
What is interesting is a woman sued Lowes in New Jersey on this issue and won in court and Lowes had to provide the exact time the movie was going to start not all the pre main feature junk.

Bradley Cooper grew up and went to this theater as a child. Sunday morning interviewed him in this theater 2 weeks ago. HE is just a good old neighborhood boy whom everybody adores.
University mall being demolished how sad. I lvied in Tampa from 83-96 and that was the in mall to go to I worked at USF for 10 ½ of those years and it was a great place to go at lunch. Franks theaters have always been shady. I worked for the original owenrs in Atlantic City in the 70’s and Mr & MRs Franks were rude jerks.
I grew up in the area and this was the palce we went to the movies on Saturday. We had 3 great old movie theaters in Uopoer Darby, the Tower, which is stillopen as a concert venue, the Terminal which was demolished when they remodeled the bus terminal and the Stanley Warner 69th St which closed around 1965 and is now a apartment building. Those were the good old days.
Why don’t they look into purchasing the historic Boyd in Phila, PA?
Does anybody in the Asheville area know if this theater will be a casulty of digital projection? I love this theater.

The thing I remember about this theater is it had a turnstill enterance after you bought your ticket.
I went there one time in 1982 to see the re release of Mary Poppins and it was a twin than.
Is this the same Hunt’s theater chain that owned all the movie theaters in Wildwood New Jersey?

From what I can tell it looks like it could be the original stage.The screen was on a stage. Do they still have the side boxes in the orchestra?
