Recently Clearview introduced their new hotline for movie showtimes. 1-888-CLVW-TIX is the number, and they mentioned that this theater has stadium seating. Is this true? More like sloped seating. It also mentions which movies are showing in DLP. Very creative. Plus if any CT members have all 3 Optimum services, then Tuesday nights are free at this and other cinemas.

The next Indiana Jones will not be shown in DLP, but plain old film, the way the director intended it to be. Only Narnia will be the only major movie to be shown in DLP this weekend.

just checked clearview’s website….they still have showtimes for Iron Man on opening night on 4 screens, not to mention getting advance showtimes for Speed Racer first before Rockaway did and showing Narnia as their next major movie in DLP. Nearly every movie listed at this theater is being shown in DLP, while the Rockaway theater sticks with 35mm and RWC/DVS in some of its screens for blind and deaf people, which is the same at the Parsippany theater, but this theater still lacks stadium seating, which would cost Clearview a lot of money to refurbish, as it spend some money installing most of its popular theaters with digital projection.

yup, and AMC Rockaway is still the most popular theater in Morris County to date.

Maybe DLP helped a little…but its still Clearview…

Recently outside the theater, there is a newly made sign saying Clearview Cinemas 12, and it’s more attractive than the mighty rockaway building. The font used in the sign is similar to the one in succasunna. The font used in the Mansfield still uses the original logo and not the new one with the filmstrip next to it. The slogan for this chain is true…people are avoiding the high priced chains like AMC in favor of smaller ones like Clearview, which will soon nearly equip all of their profitable theaters into digital venues while keeping prices a half buck lower than AMC and Regal. Since the AMC opened, traffic around the Route 46 area has slowed down, but has built up a bit since DLP was installed at this theater. Same could be said for Succasunna and other theaters.

FYI, Narnia 2 will be in DLP and advance tickets are on sale as well as those Met Opera HD shows that the Rockaway lacks!! The Met HD shows are also playing at other Clearviews with DLP, and they’ll charging around like $22, which is like a bargain to Opera fans but not for moviegoers!!!

Actually I’m wrong. Hanna Montana played on a lot of showtimes at each theater due to its short length. Screen #4 has digital projection.

Not only this theater is playing Hanna Montana in DLP, but a handful of other films are being shown in the format. How many screens out of 12 does Clearview have equipped with DLP? At Succasunna it’s 2 screens.

Due to the popularity of “Hanna Montana”, this movie will still be playing at this theater as well as Succasunna until the audience peters out.

Before AMC in Rockaway gets to show “There Will Be Blood”, this theater is playing the nearest showing of that movie. Why is it that Clearview’s Parsippany gets certain films that AMC won’t play? Maybe because AMC can’t find some room to play another movie!!! This coming weekend, Clearview will exclusively show Hannah Montana at this theater as well as Succasunna, and sales are doing great!!! In two weeks, the new U23D movie will be playing only in this theater, and I can’t wait to see it…too bad rockaway can’t afford the technology to show it. The current digital presentation at the theater is Cloverfield.

This coming February there will be two 3d movies coming out. THe first is the 3d version of the hanna montana concert and then in a few weeks it will be U2-3D. As of right now, there is no digital film release this weekend.

This coming weekend, The Golden Compass will play on 2 35mm screens, while Beowulf will still play in 3d.

Another thing Clearview needs to do is refurbish every screen with stadium rather than sloped seating. Like the Rockaway location, this theater has an elevator that only employees can use to go to the projection booth (a stairway is there just in case a fire or something bad breaks out in the lift), which is huge. They also show indian films on occasion, something that the AMC in Rockaway lacks, and also its Baby Matinee program.

This past weekend, Beowulf is now only playing in Parsippany in digital 3d. I’m not sure if Golden Compass will be playing in DLP, since that projector can do both. BTW, is attendance at this theater up or down one year since Rockaway opened?

Recently, digital projection has come to two of the busiest theaters in Morris County, one in Succasunna and one in Parsippany. The 3-D version of Meet the Robinsons was the first digital movie that those theaters projected when it debuted in late March. After more than a month in release, the Disney movie is still playing in 3-D only in Succasunna, while Parsippany is showing Spider-Man 3 in 2-D on its digital screen. How is the presentation there compared with Rockaway, which doesn’t have digital projection at all save for the preshow? I know it’s a bit farther than Rockaway and that there’s no stadium seating at the Clearview theater, but is it worth the money?

except that there is no stadium seating, which can only be found in the new rockaway theater. BTW, has business in Parisppany declined because of the new theater or surging due to the high prices?

Just went to the cinema a few weeks ago to see Pirates and they installed a new digital marquee in the ticket booth, ala clifton commons and loews wayne. Nothing much has changed in the cinema…

I can’t wait, either, John. Clearview should call THX to evaluate their theatres (much the same way that AMC/Loews and other major chains do), especially the larger houses. Some of those theatres have crummy projection and bad sound acoustics.

The theater looks very classy after the renovations, sort of like a low-rent version of Criterion Cinemas in New Haven in its color scheme. The new seats are comfortable and the new snack bar area and bathrooms were bright and clean – on that level the experience is above that of a discount house (during my last visit in December 2005 I strugled to find a seat that wasn’t broken).

I did unfortunatly have a few problems with Cinema 12 tonight: the first, we walk in about 15 minutes early to a theater that wasn’t cleaned (our tickets were ripped and we were invited to sit down) only to have a manager ask us to leave so they could clean. I asked why the ticket taker didn’t have a door schedule. Clearview is never as organized as the bigger chains when it comes to customer service. Secondly the theater’s tempature varried from too warm at times to freezing cold. Thirdly the projection was canted, an employee had assured me he’d tell someone to fix it, it was never fixed. Forth: they still haven’t fixed the problem with sound traveling from other theaters into your theater, I can’t wait to see an art flick next to a loud action picture next time I go to Cinema 12, oh boy! And lastly: they spent all this money on an upgrade and yet they didn’t bother to put in Stadium Seating. This is no low-priced theater either, its $9.50 – the same as theaters with stadium seating and more ammenities. So what they have new seats and a pre-show (called “The Clearview” which is essentally propaganda for Cablevison and its networks), I can’t wait for the new AMC at Rockaway.

With Parsippany closed for a few more days until next weekend, most residents will go to East Hanover, since they have the same number of screens as the Parsippany plex but at a lower price, as well as a tall garage parking lot and tons of shopping around Route 10. Which theatre is better, Parsippany or East Hanover? I think Parsippany is a decent choice, but I go with East Hanover for their pre-show content and large screens

You’re right. Despite the parent company posting record profits (due to cable strength), the knicks are in a losing streak, and fewer people are going to clearview cinemas yet go to rangers games (they are on a winning streak). Maybe clearview should be spunoff into a independent theatre company…

John Fink
John Fink on March 1, 2006 at 12:36 pm

Finally, but Clearview will have a problem I think in that now that AMC has taken over at Loews and prices are either lower or equal that to Clearview without offering the same ammenities (especially if AMC goes to town and retrofits some sites with stadium seating) this could be problematic for the company that brings neighbors to the movies.

They handed out a notice last weekend – they are closing for two weeks to install new seats, carpeting, concession stand, and to re-decorate the lobby area. I’m hoping they also replace the torn and dirty screens.

The theatre is getting new seats, carpeting, restrooms, and auditorium wall coverings and screens. It’s supposed to reopen in two weeks.
