This theatre can be seen right before the “Trolley Car Accident” sequence in the movie “Avalon”. The kids with the mothr come out of the theatre, and you get a great big shot of thr marquee as a trolley car careens out of control from down the side street (which is where I usually park).
They set up a fake set accorss the street that posed as a gas station.
I really do not think Regal will re-open it.. in their eyes, people can go to the Sheepshead.
Also, there is no parking here… What are they going to do anout that?
Has anyone heard rumblings from years ago about a new theatre going next to the Belt Parkway behind Best Buy, before you get to Nelly Bly on the service road?
UA, as well as the west coast Edwards chain are now part of the Regal Cinemas Empire….
There is no more United Artists.. it is now just another part of REGAL ENTERTAINMENT GROUP.
This company seems to do things on the cheap… Yes they make sure there are screens but they don’t do anything to make the theatres anything special or even classy at all… like AMC does for instance.
The renovated Sheepshead Bay theatre STILL havs some auditoriums without stadiunm seating… STILL has really nasty bathrooms.. the funniest is the one mens room that was newly added with ONE URINAL.. or the line outside the ladies room.
The theatres are OK but just OK.. nothing special about this place… It was just renovated and expanded to keep anyone else out of Brooklyn.. look how really run down they let it become before this renovation project.
I see the area all the time… I grew up there and am back through there once a month. it is a fine area.
And, YOU are the ignorant and uneducated person on here. People can type whatever they like here, and if you have a problem you should explore some professional help choices, and not attack people on a message board that you do not know.
You obviously have some sort of strange problem so please keep it to yourself.
Yes it was 4.. but it DID have The Rocky Horror Picture Show there… I remmeber leaving from a movie with a friend and all these weird people were running up the stairs.. so we went back and watched….
The Cine Capri was owned by Harkins… not Cineplex Odeon. Cinepex didn’t have any screens in the valley until they tried to come in with one in the basement of Scottsdale Galleria in the early 90s which failed.
This would be great.. a tribute to my grandparents whose 1st date was here…. and then more first dates can lead into new families again… Please keep us up to date.
It is a good location although they will need to add parking to whatever they make someplace… with no lot, you only will get neighborhood traffic… OK for one screen or even 4 but not a lot.

Again.. ANy wor don WHEN the Astor Plaza will be closing and if it is definite or speculation or rumor?
Any new news on this theatre?

Wow… Warren you are a wealth of knowledge….
Can I ask you.. what is the history of the Goldens chain? I worked at the Oceana for awhile… (I know we are on the Knigsway site)
Mike
Does anyone remember the old brand in Ny “Red Carpet Theatres” and also “Blue Ribbon Theatres”?
If so, which theatres carried those names.. I only vaguley remember comemrcials ending with “Now playing at a Red Carpet Theatre near you.”
What other brands were there back then…. and is Loews not owned by Sony any more?
Warren,
I will always remember it as the CENTURY Kingsway….
I also rem, ember the CENTURY Avalon, and Mayfair…. which others were DCentury theatres in Brooklyn at that time???
Ron,
I see the area all the time… I grew up there and am back through there once a month. it is a fine area.

In the later years, most seats were broken or missing.
There was also a ladder present in the downstairs auditorium.

Any word on further renovations to the theatre?
The upstairs consession standf was rarely used… Only on weekends years ago when they had very full house…
The please was a dump at the end, but mos tplaces that are not kept up become that…. It would have been a great theatre to save and keep.
Brooklyn’s first “twinned” theatre!
The Cine Capri was owned by Harkins… not Cineplex Odeon. Cinepex didn’t have any screens in the valley until they tried to come in with one in the basement of Scottsdale Galleria in the early 90s which failed.
The Ciema Kings Highway…. Is that the one that was off Ocean Prkway and was an adult movie house (as long as I could remember)?
Mike
I was there!!
It is just a big stadium seating theatre with a curtain….
Nice to see Lord of the Rings there.
It is NO Cine Capri however….

I am confused.. and I am going back to visit Phoenix soon.
The theatre is called the Scottsdale 101.. then they have a separate listing with one movie for the “Cine Capri” at Scottsdale 101.

Did they make a large Cine Carpi like auditorium???
This is a great theatre to see a movie. The owner/organ player plays the organ before holiday movies and has a sing along.
Classic Southern style!
The Cine Carpi is now open again by the Harkins chain in Scottsdale.
I do not know how it is, but it is there.
Mike
I remember this theatre as the RKO WARNER Twin.
It had a great Cinerama screen… seeing WARGAME Shere still to this day let me see a computer screen as big as I will ever see it!
They had another auditorium not as nice as that round one.
I believe this was a drive in theatre before becoming the Sunrise cinemas.
They used to have metal detectors for patrons, it was so bad.
I love going to this theatre, although the seats are not easy on the butt.
It doe snot have a real balcony…. more or less a box area (2 of them) upstairs.
Matt Damon will be there this weekend to promote and premeire his new movie. Tickets are $150 for VIP!
