How was Rogue One in Imax with laser? I saw it in a regular imax and tho the cinematography was beautiful the image quality was really disappointing. I hope it was stunning in imax with laser!

I can confirm that the Dunkirk preview does indeed fill the entire screen… And holy crap, it looks AMAZING! SO freaking happy that we have it playing here.

So the Dunkirk prologue is apparently being shown here? Is it going to fill the whole screen and be remastered for laser or will it just be the digital iMax version thrown up? Has anyone been there?

The full screen will be used for 1.43 titles (such as the upcoming Dunkirk). Rogue One is a 2.35 title so there will be some letterboxing, but it will still use more of the screen than Force Awakens did (which was windowboxed as all digital IMAX presentations here were).

How much of the screen will the laser projector fill? For Force Awakens in digital, barely half was used. Will this be more or about the same?

from what i heard dolby has HDR in the form of Dolby Vision and the seats shake when the sound is on. When you enter a dolby cinema, they have a display showing clips from the movie you are about to see. The picture quality of Dolby Cinema is the best i heard, even better than standard 4k projection.

Im talking about the picture quality, does Dolby cinema reach the picture quality of IMAX 70mm IMAX scenes specifically which are high quality how does that compare to Dolby cinemas picture quality, same question I know but I would like to know since I’ve never been to a Dolby cinema

I’ve wondered the same between dolby vs Imax until I saw dolby after seeing IMAX for a long time. I think this article was the best thing I’ve read about it.

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/IMAX/dolby-cinema/amc-prime/Dolby/imax-3d/hdr/high-dynamic-range/rec2020/expanded-colors/laser-3d/Star_Wars/the-force-awakens/Dolby_Atmos/Atmos/the-force-awakens-imax-3d-vs-dolby-cinema-at-amc-prime/28452

Now that I’ve experienced Dolby after seeing IMAX for years, I prefer IMAX in a real IMAX theater like Lincoln Square. I prefer the huge screen and the thunderous sound. Dolby is real impressive and the ATMOS is really impressive, but I just prefer IMAX. However, compared to small Imax digital theaters, I would say that Dolby is better. The ATMOS and the plush seating is really awesome! If the smaller IMAX theaters put in plush seating like DOLBY, it would basically be a wash. That’s just my experience.

For anyone who has seen a movie in dolby cinema how does it compare to IMAX 70mm in terms of picture quality for example seeing interstellar or the dark knight rises had IMAX footage, how do the IMAX scenes compare to Dolby cinemas picture quality.

http://www.imax.com/news/advance-tickets-rogue-one-everything-you-need-know 11 of the 13 US/Canada locations for IMAX 70mm Rogue One are indeed museums. The bigger issue is that more than half (including the sole Northeast site) are in IMAX domes- domes couldn’t be replaced with IMAX digital projectors but aren’t good places to see two hour+ Hollywood movies.

glad to hear it. Too bad they won’t show 7 minutes of Dunkirk with Rogue One since it’s only with 70mm screenings mostly at museums.

Yeah, it was announced they would cut back on the IMAX seating capacity a bit with the newer seats.

The IMAX screen is now closed for the completion of renovation before Rogue One. I can’t agree with opening it when they did, but good they seem to avoid rushing the final steps now and are addressing all the kinks.

I think they cut back on the imax seats a bit…it used to be around 600. Theater 1 is the Loews screen with Atmos.

Too bad it won’t fill up the screen like Fantastic Beasts did.

They really seem to be on the right track. I was very impressed by the response I received! I’m super excited and expect to be blown away by Rogue one in all it Imax laser 3d glory!

During every showing of an imax movie at the very end before the lights turn on, they have an email address for the CQO as well as Eileen on twitter. You can also facebook message the imax page. They are very helpful. I think the lincoln square imax is now the best imax on the east coast!!!

Darth_Vader444- I also emailed CQO at IMAX this morning. They apologized for the vertical lines on the screen for the Fantastic Beast showing and assured me that it will be fixed in time for Rogue One. I encourage anyone else who had any issues with the IMAX showing of Fantastic Beast to email CQO at IMAX. Thanks guys!!

So I emailed Imax CQO yesterday and got an amazing response! I was assured the problems with fantastic beasts will be fixed for Rogue one!!! How awesome is that?!?! Great to see good people running the show!

Thanks Movie_Time! Good to hear! I’m super stoked about the added comfort! Can’t wait for the 16th! I will definitely email the imax guys about the issues mentioned. I really want to see them get it right for Rogue One.

Darth_Vader444 – The seats are all new. They are definitely more comfortable than the last set of seats. They don’t really recline, but they push back a little. Not as large and nice as the AMC Dolby Cinema though. Got my IMAX Rogue One tickets for Sunday last night. We should definitely all shoot our concerns over to IMAX guys. Thanks

I spoke with an IMAX executive via Twitter and she said to email them about the various issues and they will check it out:

CQO (at) IMAX (dot) com

Hopefully if they get enough reports, they will fix them in time for Rogue One.

Tickets went fast! Fandango was useless last night when tickets went on sale. They had every show listed as “Sold Out.” Luckily I tried the AMC website and got tickets. They aren’t in our favorite place (Row D/E seats 20-24) but close enough. I’m super excited to see Rogue One in the newly renovated theater. I do hope they iron out the bugs that were mentioned by Movie_Time.

xbs2034 – I’ve seen a 3D presentation in 70MM Imax years ago and it was amazing 3D for sure! I’m hoping the 3D with the new laser system is awesome!

Movie_Time – Can you comment on the new seating? Is there a big difference? I’m a big guy and as much as I love the experience of the Lincoln Square Imax, the comfort level of the seats had much to be desired.
