The new management knows nothing about establishing goodwill: The box offices(Hollywood Blvd & upstairs)have a notice saying Mann passes or vouchers will NOT be honored.

So if Mann certificate holders travels to Hollywood expecting to use same they are out of luck! How outrageous when thousands of seats go unsold at EACH screening(the 7 theaters seat about 3000).

Memo to new idiot management: You just lost concession sales and future patron loyalty.

FYI, cuture mavens may want to check out “The Importance of Being Earnest” and Sondheim’s “Company” coming to the Chinese 6 in June. Tickets are a steep $20, no senior or children discounts.

Caught the 10:30PM showing of “Jumping the Broom” on Saturday 5/14. Only 25 of us in the audience. The movie was standard fare, but the gorgeous cinematography was projected magnificently on the big screen.

The geniuses that run the Chinese have to learn how to capitalize on the thousands of Chinese tourists that visit the forecourt every week. It must be a point of pride to the Chinese that one of the most famous theaters in the world has a Chinese motif.

Just as Broadway theaters depend heavily on the domestic and foreign toursist trade so must the Chinese.

The Mexico Film Festival was held May 19-25, 2011 at the Montalban and enjoyed huge attendance including several sellouts. I snared an $80 all access pass for $40 in a one-day promo on the L A Weekly website and saw nine films.

Milagro Tequila had a free drink and punch bar which I enjoyed. A number of Mexican actors and talent attended and it was refreshing to see a better dressed and younger crowd-about 95% Latino-than you see at other film festivals. The concession prices were quite reasonable: $2 for candy bars, bags of cashews, soft drinks, etc. Beer and wine were also available.

I am not Hispanic and my subpar Spanish hindered me in getting much out of the Q & As, mostly in Spanish. All films had English subtitles, except for one picture
sent to the festival in error with English titles.

About a week ago the powerhouse website Groupon sold over 2000 admission/popcorn/soda packages to the Beverly in less than 24 hours!

Even folks who did now buy know about the Beverly. Expect a noticeable uptick in business.

If you can believe it the Regent Showcase has wrestling about once a month that is also shown on a local cable TV station.

I heard a rumor that Quentin Tarantino, who saved the Beverly, may have some plans for the Showcase.

I have never been in the Vine so I will be attending the Slaughter Cinema festival on 6/25. Not a fan of these types of movies but I did see the last Saw movie at the Majestic Crest.

Saw two great documentary films last night at the Showcase: The Economics of Happiness and RECONCILIATION: Mandela’s Miracle. Kudos to the Awareness Festival for taking over the Showcase for four consecutive nights until Sunday. WWW.Goldstar.com is offering $3.50 prices to individual screenings and the festival organizer has passes on their website.

In September 1987 I was in Honolulu from the mainland on business. There was a fundraiser at the Hawaii and I bought a T-shirt and really enjoyed the charming Honolulu Boy Choir performance.

Back then restoration was in the future so I’m glad to see that this gem was saved.
