The only other show to play a 2 week reserved seat engagement was Dreamgirls in 2006. They also had a souvenir program.

Love this picture,. I remember the Music Hall well. I never understood why with all the curtains on that stage they didn’t use one as masking. The Casino had masking/curtains

m00se1111 It seems like AMC has closed the majority of the Carmike chain. Why did they buy them if they knew they were not good. I loved AMC when I lived in Florida but the location here sucks. I avoid it for years and now that new policy they have is crazy. The one here signed a 7.5 year lease when they took it over which would end sometime this year. They did add recliners a few years back so maybe this is a good location for them. I know there are not many theaters in the area where they are.

I am sick and tired of POS AMC closing the Carmike locations they bought.

They were NOT out there the past two days. All Regal other theaters were showing updated listings except this one for some odd reason.

This theater was called the Warner when it closed not the Warren. The name should be changed.

Vindanpar Just saw you comment from 2021. I don’t think the Embassy was a roadshow theater except for Dr. Zhivago. It was like the Charles had 1 The Lion In Winter and the Apollo had Last Tango In Paris. Except for the Roxy most of Hamid’s other theaters had roadshow engagements. The Virginia was so plain and boring, no masking or curtains. The Roxy was a show palace. Why that wasn’t his roadshow house still has me scratching my head. I wish someone from his family was on here and could explain that logic. The only reason this closed after the 73 season was the government bought the block and building and would not let him open which was crazy because others on the block did.

AMC is closing almost all the Carmike locations. Why they were approved to buy Carmike is ridiculous

The theater had beautiful murals on the ceiling. The fireman comment the day after the fire that it was horrible watching the beautiful ceiling collapse

Strange theater it showed all films in 1.85 aspect ratio. Scope films were off the screen. It became an urgent care when it was first closed. Like everything else in AC, Ocean City and Wildwood the Frank’s ruined it. I am so glad they are bankrupt and gone from the theater business. Horrible family to work for.

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Roxy Theatre on Mar 9, 2023 at 1:35 pm

This theater indeed was beautiful. Why Hamid used the Virginia as the big Roadshow theater is beyond me. It had no masking or curtains. The Roxy had both plus a beautiful screen that sat on a stage.

This marquee was moved from the Apollo Theater when Tannembaum closed it sometime around the late 70’s

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Apollo Theatre on Mar 8, 2023 at 1:23 pm

The synopsis is incorrect. The theater closed in August of 72 when the Frank’s did not want to renew the lease. They had the roadshow engagement of Last Tango In Paris which moved to the Margate. The following year Charles Tannemabum turned it into the Apollo Burlesque when he closed the Capitol.

It was open all year round until November 75 when it closed for the season with Pelham 123. The theater was actually open past 76. The summer of 78 which was the last year we were in AC it was open because my friend Marie was the cashier and I would go hang there nightly.

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Steel Pier Theatre & Steel Pier Ocean Theatre on Mar 8, 2023 at 12:49 pm

Thanks Rivest I had no clue there was a separate theater there called the Ocean. The three theaters in the Steel Pier in the 60’s-70’s was the Music Hall, Casino and Midway. The Music Hall had a movies followed by a vaudeville show. The Casino had only movies and the Midway had The Tony Grant stars of tomorrow. In 73 Hamid sold the Steel Pier to the guys who owned Million Dollar Pier. They demolished the huge Musical Hall theater to put in International Thrill rides. It was a flop. They moved the stage shows to the Casino and it was not even close to what they had been. Not only did they remove the great screen they had but they put in a small screen that was about the size of a home movie screen. The first year a tropical storm came and destroyed all the rides.

Big Joe The theater here Carolina Cinemark that has food is very reasonable considering food prices. Also if you are a member you get 20% off plus they have monthly concession coupons. There was another chain here for several years a spin off of Regal called Cinebarre. They had table service and they were reasonable too. I get what you are saying Regal regular concession prices are ridiculous.

They had gone to triple features in the early 80’s. During the Stanley Warner years, they had no curtains but did have masking which had to be manually opened and closed. When SamEric took it over they added gold drapes over the screen and all on the walls. There was an E on the left curtain.
