Ah, Fathom Events. It certainly wasn’t a 70mm or 35mm showing, then.
The showing I mentioned earlier were through Fathom events and they were charing $12.50.
“The Sound of Music” was a memorable experience up on the Ziegfeld screen in March 2008, and that was not by any means a new print, so the new print is something to look forward to.
2011 is the 50th anniversary of “West Side Story”, a perfect excuse for the Ziegfeld to show that new 70mm print with the corrected soundtrack which was recently screened in L.A.
Well we all know that 70mm DTS prints of “The Sound of Music” are out there and we also know that the Ziegfeld has a 70mm DTS reader so ….
Poor Craig who must be thinking, gosh there is no pleasing these Cinema Treasure guys. Well….we are after all a tough lot, but even a second best 35mm showing will be appreciated

One change here for the Sound of Music. We will open on Thursday, December 16th (not Wednesday, Dec. 15th as previously noted)

The new restored Sound of Music 70MM prints are DTS soundtrack format. But are limited to special venue bookings.
Could be. The question is, did they actually make any new prints in 70mm with DTS for Sound of Music?

What’s a ‘digital 70mm print’? It’s either digital or 70mm. Can’t be both.
Now if Raleigh and Durham NC could get new digital 70mm prints why couldn’t the famous Ziegfeld?
The image will be the same size, although not quite as sharp.
But I’ll take it, anyway.
Sound of Music in 35mm not 70mm, Gosh Craig that’s too bad, oh well at least it’s not Digital, I’m sure a four track mag print was not struck so I assume Dolby digital sound format?

Nice to see the curtains in use at last night’s Harry Potter show. There were lots of people in the center section too. VERY nice to see so many people going out of their way to see a show at the Ziegfeld.
Yes all digital because, the lost footage was in 16mm.
It was digital. I believe I read somewhere that all showings of this film are digital.
question: was the Ziegfeld and Film Forum presentation of Metropolis 35mm or digital projection – I ask only because the DC engagement at the Avalon was DP
Too bad, I was going to see this Saturday after Chiller Theatre in North Jersey I made plans,sh**!
But they need to make their own effort for specialized product like Metropolis.
Newspapers still give out a lot of free space in their feature pages — stills from movies and shows, listings of what’s hot or noteworthy, featurettes, etc. Apparently the Times was sold on the idea that a theatrical release of the restored Metropolis on the big Ziegfeld screen was newsworthy, and with a little more effort on Clearview’s part I’m sure the other papers would have made the same judgment. I wonder if they were even approached.
Times have changed with placing movie ads and theatre listings in newspapers. People get their news from the internet now. And find out about things through Twitter and FaceBook. Studios are not spending large amounts on ads like they use too.
The Times did have an ad for Metropolis, but it was very small. The News is my favorite of the three daily papers, but there was nothing about it there. I found out about the show here on Cinema Treasures.
Speak for yourself! I try to read all three but I can’t afford the Times right now ($2.00 per day!) Since the News and Post have a combined local/metropolitan total much higher than the Times, even a few dozen or few hundred more patrons led to the Ziegfeld by a little ballyhoo in the tabs could have made a difference.
