I WAS DIVISION MANAGER AT OPENING G.C.C. later in a trade of theater with MANN THEATERS I AT THAT TIME HAD MOVE TO MANN, AS G.M. OF OPERATIONS FOR THE CHAIN, THEATER OPEN SLOW THEN AS MANN TOOK IT OVER DID VERY WELL, UNTIL MORE THEATERS MOVE INTO THE AREA, IT WAS A FREE STANDING SIDE BY SIDE TRIPLE LATER WAS SPIT BY OTHERS NONE GONE

JIM SHEEHAN was the second manger of this theater later he go on into our film office as a buyer and later much more

The second manager of SOUTHLAND was JIM SHEEHAN just spoke to him and asked what the seating count was for the original twin before the spit into five theaters 1276 and 836, alway run by GENERAL CINEMA the theater is now gone.

Except for that ghost photo and one of the ad i place the other photos JIM SHEEHAN was the second manager of the theater while LARRY GLESON WAS DIVISION MANGER, both of them I work with at WESTGATE CINEMA in BROCKTON MA. we are all still friends today at one time while I was managing BROCKTON I vacationed out in Ca. visiting with both the theater at the time was a very high grossing theater, and remained that for many years, I well find out the seating next time I speak to JIM, I now am retired after forty wonderful years in theaters, and live in ABQ. GENERAL CINEMA three 325 single aisle theaters on second floor, with box office on first floor, and restrooms on third, as DIVISION MANAGER for G.CC. my office was there, later when I was CCO for MANN THEATERS we opened a MANN 6 at the strip center next to mall later CINEMARK 16 open free standing theater at mall

CINEMA VILLA ITALIA, in its day played with CINEMA CHERRY CREEK, both did very well in there day, GENERAL CINEMA opened them and later spite both as twins, another poor spit of G.C.C. later in a trade, MANN THEATER took over, I was division manage for G.C.C. but at time of the trade was C.O.O. for MANN THEATERS

My firs home was just on the other side of ST. PATRICK’S ON EAST CENTRAL ST. many times during the late forties and fifties, on remember while was “MOBY DICK” enjoy films at the wonderful theater, later in life had a forty year career in theaters

I opened this theater, it was a HOLIDAY LANE, and was converted into a very nice single theater with a stadium auditorium, the bowling alley was a single level so went down about twenty feet for a pitch,I was there at opening for month or so to retrain the bowling manager for theaters think his name was JOE BAHARA this is my photo

I saw a number of films here it was always well run think it showed more art films of the day English ie TUNES OF GLORY next to the theater on could ice cream, these times when I was a usher in FRAMINHAM, as a teen from NATICK

YES THIS WAS OPENED BY GENERAL CINEMA BUT IN 1967, I WAS THE MANAGER IT WAS A SINGLE AFTER I LEFT THEY MADE IT INTO A TWIN.

1965 the theater open as a twin, I was the third asst. and was transferred a number of times and returned in 1968 as the third manager I opened the second twin which had its own box, concession, and both, the name at that time change to CINEMA CENTRE the theater played first run other Boston area theater were sub run, the theater at the time was number one in the company GENERAL CINEMA, I was transferred to Denver as division manager, the first manager Larry Gleason also move on to open Braintree Cinema l & ll, later became division manager of Ca. WESTGATE CINEMA ONE SEATS 952, TWO was 526 seats, THREE 750 SEATS, and CINEMA FOUR 580 seats this theater remain one of the top gross theaters for many years.

Retired here in Abq. been here a few times yes it was a old UA theater they never put a dime in it after they opened, Regal took it they went alone with U.A. once open let it go, BUT THESE NEW OWNERS first of all it clean the dump, it look really good and the latest of CHAIRS the are the state of the art, very latest and reserve seating one fills your own pop corn, and drinks can refill at will, the concession price very low, and the new owners are really trying to make a go of it, heard its a family from ROSWELL N.M. they have a theater there another in Tx.
