here now the news…drove by theatre…was dark except for a light in the box office area…got out of the car…weeks worth of mail was shoved under the door….west side marquee still had someones
happy bithday on it…on the north side was an ad for some place
having a grand opening sept 3rd…they sold ad space and bithdays..
so my quess is they closed labor day weekend…for they in the past never had anything on the north marquee but the 3 features playing
that week…the only sign was the 1 sheet talking the $4.00 tuesday
nothing about being closed…being away from long island so long
i don’t have many contacts..if someone out there knows someone in the operaters union or someone in a large chain maybe they know more something..
what ever happend they were in a hurry…also, someone who would know called me at wnyg radio and said they were very behinde on the water bill…no water no flush no film…
we need lotto winners or deep pockets or another cvs store will be there…after all..it is on a corner..
HELP!!

The Islip always seems to have people standing out front, so hopefully they continue to do a good buiness. it’s not easy for a theater like this (or the Sayville) to survive with all the multiplexes around.

Well the marquee is not quite as “colorful” as I thought I remembered it, but it’s neon, and atteactive just the same.

Here’s a photo of the Islip taken today:

I unfortunately never have seen a movie at the Islip, but pass it all the time. I always admire it’s attractive neon marquee, and looks well maintained.
