I keep reading that this theatre only ran American independent films for that one brief year in 1965, but other data shows they ran this style of programming into the 70’s. see this D Magazine listing for “New American Cinema” from 1975
Update: The theatre has been bulldozed.
this was indeed the best theater in Dallas during the 80’s and 90’s in terms of presentation. Were making some strides down in Oak Cliff to try and get close!
a changeover 35mm system was installed in June of 2011 in the original projection booth
some sort of construction is happening right now on this lot which has been empty for quite some time. up until a few days ago the original box office tile was there still.
my company Aviation Cinemas has taken over the lease at the Texas Theatre. We will be doing some upgrades to the lobby and house and then showing movies!

looks like it was demolished very recently. A Grocery store nearby seems to be taking over the lot.
how come the AMC Prestonwood, the GC Prestonwood and the GC Galleria aren’t on Cinema Treasures? (or if they are, I cant find them!) I think of all 4 of theses theaters together cause they were in the same booking district.
