At right, it was November 25, 1970 and time for Showcase Cinema, the single-screen luxury road show theater that had opened about 18 months earlier, to jam a second screen into its space. Transcontinental had already done this in three other roadshow locations placing a 175-screen auditorium above the spacious lobby/entryway. And Patton would be the first film.

In the center is the Cinemaccanica Victoria 18 70mm projector automated so that a single projectionist can watch over both auditoria. The Italian-made projector could hold 2.5 hours of film. Since Patton was longer than that, I’m not sure how this screening went!

And at far left is the first road show opportunity with reserved seating that was advertised two months before “Oliver” opened at the Showcase in 1969 and advertised before the theater was even opened. You just had to have faith that the theater was going to have stellar presentation. And it delivered.
