Saw only one movie here. I should have known Exorcist II: The Heretic was going to be a huge bomb when this theatre showed it on its first run. I dragged my older brother and his friends to see it since I was too young to get in. They laughed all the way through it as I sat mortified for having subjected them to it. The memories.

Worked at the Pequa for manager Lisa Shubin briefly in 1981. Raiders of the Lost ark played most of that year. Oh my god, I remember someone changed the marquee to get back at the previous manager….Something like…“Denise sells used popcorn buckets.” What a riot. A really cool theater. Saw “Midway” an “Rollercoaster” there in Sensurround., and had a private showing of “The Car.” when no one else showed up one saturday afternoon.

Theater 5 was my favorite. It was slighly larger than the average living room at the time. Remember seeing GRIZZLY, AIRPORT 1975/EARTHQUAKE double feature and JAWS in that tiny theater. Very cool to sit in the first couple rows and be overwhelmed by the screen being just 10 feet away. It didn’t take much to impress a fourteen year old kid.

The theater opened in the Mall in July 1975, and was expanded to 7 theaters in late 1979.

YES! Neil, that be this Don. Forgot about the sneaker incident. Remember the gang drinking at the Black (Hole) Thorn Tavern after the show, and how can we forget your kite flying idea at 2am at the school field. Tom and Lisa would “Change Lightbulbs” in the usher room. And remember changing that frigging marquee on thursday nights in the winter!!!! I think we both had that job at one time or another. I was there through 1980 till mid ‘81. Great to hear from you dude. Keep finding people and adding to our history. Great to find you well!

Hi Tom, Great news. So glad you’re all fine and you guys are happy. I moved to Fort Lauderdale in January. Have you ever ran into Vicki, Karen, Kathy, Denise, or any of the old gang? I’ll always remember those summer days at the Meadowbrook. We had some fun back then. Put on an old flick like The Blues Brothers or Caddyshack or Xanadu and let the memories roll over you! Take care.

Hey Peng. Is that Tom? That pretty candy girl you married, could that be Lisa? You two were an item when I worked there. Let me know how you are. Shoot me an email if you like.

I was just thinking about this wonderful theater and felt compelled to comment. I worked at the Meadowbrook Quad from 1979-81, and what a cool experience it was. I was 17 at the time. Everyone on the staff became such good friends during that time. The Theater was a single house with a balcony until late 1977, when 3 more screens were added on. I was there for some of the Meadowbrooks' biggest hits (Caddyshack, Private Benjamin, Blues Brothers, Animal House, The Jerk, Apocalypse Now, Halloween, Superman II). Some of the bombs that screened have a warm place in my heart also (Xanadu, He Knows You’re Alone, 1941.) Jean S. and Tony Lomonico were the managers and they treated us great. Tony would run movies after the theater closed and we’d have private staff screenings of Blazing Saddles, Fame and Night Hawks. We would pile into our cars after the shows closed and head to the nearest watering hole (Black Thorn, Barrymore’s.) It’s such a shame it’s all gone now. It really was a class act during the late 70s – early 80s. To all my co-worker friends from that wonderful time (Tom, Lisa, Debbie, Roseanne, Karen, Vicki, Neil, Theone, Denise, Kathy) a Big warm hello from the past!
