I documented the restoration of the Hollywood
back in 2006-2007. I shot hundreds of images.
I created a Qtime movie of what the Hollywood
looked like before being remodeled.

I was actually there the night it closed. If you dressed in 50’s attire or drove in with a classic vintage car you got in for free. I drove my 58 Edsel. The movie was Rocky 4.. Eye of the tiger.

Too bad. It was only open for 14 months. Parking was always a problem.

If you are interested, I recently posted a first draft movie of the preservation of the Hollywood.
I’ve been photographing the work on the theater since it began last year. The external part of the movie is finished, the interior shots i’m still working on. Go to www.youtube.com and do a search for douglaswbrendel. Please leave a comment.
Thanks

I have new photos of the construction. Taken Jan 8th 2007.
Work is comming along, major electrical problems. No seats as of yet. Just started painting the ceiling and recovering the walls. I have some interesting shots in the projection room, basement etc. Also found an old movie poster, and an old refreshment stand popcorn sign. Any offers?

An update. Theater was gutted, balcony seats ripped out and thrown in a dumpster. Old Hollywood sign also destroyed. Too bad. My friend Clint “MAN” had his first kiss there (with a breeder) back in 74.

About a month ago all the floor seats were quickly ripped out and thrown into dumpsters in pieces. Is there any demand for old theater seats? The balcony is still filled with old seats,
which will most likely destroyed this week (oct 23-27). I offered the contractor a way to raise some money by selling the seats, but he was not interested.

If any one is interested, I recently took some photos inside the old HOLLYWOOD “gutted out"
One lone seat remains on the floor. Nice shots of an old local favorite.
In my day, the early 70’s, the HOLLYWOOD was well known to admit under age kids in to R rated movies. I remember seeing The Exorcist back in 73, I was 12, plus many many more.
E-mail me if you would like to see some images from inside the HOLLYWOOD as it looks now,

Thanks
Doug
