  • <p>“Rootin' Tootin'” Jay Wooten built and owned the Great Western Drive-In Theatre. In the 1970’s he leased it to Commonwealth Entertainment.</p>
  • <p>Kenneth Vere “KV” Howard was the manager and projector operator from the time it was built in 1949 until his passing in 1964.</p>
  • <p>This is the original tower after completion but before the grand opening.  It was widened at a later date to accommodate CinemaScope and PanaVision format films.</p>
  • <p>This construction probably happened sometime within the theatre’s first 3 years of existence based on the car in the bottom left hand corner which appears to be a 1950 Chevy.</p>
  • <p>The tower as it appeared after widening and the addition of playground equipment.</p>
  • <p>This photo was taken sometime around 1960 to 1964. The tower had 3 flood lights which were turned on after the last movie to assist motorists as they exited.  This photo was taken by the electrician that had to change a burned out bulb.  The view is looking west along Pancake Boulevard (Highway 54).  The top of the tower is visible along the extreme right side of the photo.</p>
  • <p>Dorothy Howard was the manager of the concession stand from 1949 until her retirement sometime in the mid to late 1970’s. She is the first on the left of this photo.</p>
