The first film to play there in 1925 on opening night was “The Wife Which Wasn’t Wanted” starring Irene Rich.

This drive-in is just down the street from me. It closed for several years during the 1990’s. It was originally built with only one large screen. A second screen was added during the late 70’s. The third and fourth screens were added just during the last couple of years.

I remember a lot of good horror movies that played there such as The Gates of Hell, House By the Cemetery, Horror Planet, Nightmares In a Damaged Brain, Pieces, Mortuary, Mother’s Day, Burial Ground, Humanoids from the Deep, Galaxy of Terror, Suspiria, Carrie, The Legend of Boggy Creek, The Food of the Gods, Night of the Zombies,Bloodeaters, My Bloody Valentine, and lots more.

I was only at The Riverside once back in 1980 or 1981. I’m thinking it might have been the drive-in’s last summer.

It was triple-horror feature that night: Zombie, Blood Beach, and The Boogeyman. I remember the sound system being very poor. You could hear all of the speakers making a buzzing sound throughout the drive-in before the first feature started.

I think some kind of a water treatment plant is now on the former theater property.

The Capitol was located in Steubenville, Ohio, on South Fourth Street. From what I have heard they seemed to play mostly Warner Bros. releases. It was supposed to have been very nice and comfortable with the plush seats it had for the patrons. The theater closed in the 1960’s or early 1970’s. I’m pretty sure a parking lot was built over the theater’s former location.
