Avenal box office, 1998. My mom, Leah Parks, is standing in it, just for fun. At this time the Avenal had undergone an aborted refurbishing where, reportedly, someone ran off with the funds, bringing the project to a halt, not to be restarted for several years. By 2003, when the fire occurred, the Avenal had been refurbished and was operating as a first run, single screen theater, with occasional live events and town meetings and the like.
