Drove past the building used to be the Park Theatre yesterday, it seems to be a bingo hall among other things. I believe it operates under the name of “Parkway Hall” or something similar.
I think this building still exists. If you look up the address in Google Maps and go to the “street view”, there is a building with similar dimensions, placement, and trim around the top. However the facade has been heavily modified. I don’t know what the building’s present function is.
I went to see “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” the day before new year’s eve. The staff there is so nice! They gave me a full “backstage” tour, up into the old pipe chambers and everything. First rate!
Jeez. How terrible. I had wanted to go there for quite some time, and now who knows if I’ll get the chance. It makes me sick when stuff like this happens.
I used to live a handful of blocks from this place, in the mid-90s to the early-00s (I was born in ‘93). I remember my mom and I driving past there when I was really small and her pointing at the Rex and saying, “See that? It used to be a theatre.” I have had the ability to recognize former theatres ever since…
Wow, I remember going here as a little kid in the late ‘90s. Can’t remember what films I saw, but I know I really liked the place (especially the chandeliers). How rare that such a nice theatre was built in the '60s, of all decades. I’ll miss this place.
And plus, Lakewood’s House of Donuts > Krispy Kreme.
The 7th Street has its original Wurlitzer organ back after many decades! The organ is in the theatre but won’t be completely installed until other restoration work on the theatre can be completed.

This building now houses the Hana Buffet.
Does anybody have any information about the organ? I would love to know more.
