remember seeing midnite rocky horror then while in high school circa 1980…plenty of cold beer and smoke…anyway, some seriously impaired dude tried to hop a picket fence down the block from the theater and didn’t quite succeed..though nothing was prodruding he was yelling “Get the fn picket out of my leg!” over and over…fun times.
I remember as a kid in the mid 70s I used to like to call the theaters to listen to their recordings…it was a cool new high technology! Anyway, I remember a gravelly voiced woman usually did the Majestic recording, rather formal, pronounced it “thee-a-ter”
grew up in nearby Madison Park and some many movies there…remember the original Straw Dogs, was about 10 and went with my sister and her boyfriend…lot of violence for a young lad.
I remember seeing Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore in the early 70s, with my mother (dad stayed home in New Jersey) while visiting Cooperstown, Hall of Fame, etc. The movie choice was interesting because over time I became increasingly aware of her unhappiness in her marriage with my father.
Because Bellmore has become a hopping little downtown at times parking can be an issue, but a nice in-between size place, and ideal for grabbing food and libation before or after a flick.
The original owners sold to Landmark Theaters and the theather is now the Landmark though they sort of keep the original Spectrum 8 name. No other changes, still top notch.
saw Mark of the Devil and another horror flick I can’t remember somtime in the 70s…also, I worked at the Turnpike Indoor/Outdoor in 79 and 1 nite had to drive bags of popocorn to this place (both UA owned) and it was a rainy nite and I almost got creamed at the notoriously dangerous Green Street circle
Ditto for the prior positive comments. If one can wait a few weeks you can see the same big movies for less money in a really cool, well run environment. Also, some excellent spots nearby for food and/or drink before or after the movie.
i’ve gone here a few times while killing time on my ride down from albany ny to party with friends in oldwick.
comfortable seating, large bathrooms, very airy
great place, go all the time…remember seeing “Bound” and during the racy lesbian scenes a couple of hillbillies from East Berne or something snorted and guffawed…most patrons found them quite entertaining…
Saw “Altered States” (in a chemically induced altered state) around 1980…also Strathmore Bowling nearby.

I lived nearby in Madison Park and went to many movies there in the 70s/early 80s including some of the x rated variety. I remember seeing “Squirm” a movie about giant snakes terrorizing the people, and walking home through the woods getting terrorized a bit by some Sayreville punks.
Grew up in Madison Park across Route 9 saw many movies there, Jeremiah Johnson in early 70s my sister and I were only ones at a 4:00 weekday show.
Remember a big lobby with lots of paintings.
I remember being in the backseat of my parents car when they went to see The Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre here in late 60s…They probably thought I was sleeping but I was awake to see the (for its time) gruesome machine gunning scene. It gave me nightmares (and obviously memories) for a long time.
nice place but a bizarre access, can take escalator up but not down…to exit you must walk into mall and take escalator down (or take the one slow crowded elevator)…pretty hokey….
Cruised in here on my way from south NJ to north NJ with some time to kill in early 90s…caught Little Odessa…nice place, good to see an art theater in the suburban wilderness.
Recall as a kid making a prank call to the theater about their showing porn…the crusty smoke voiced woman who answered told me off with a few f-bombs….
Saw some films here when visiting family in central Jersey in 80s/90s…seemed like a shaky operation but they brought much needed “art” movies to area…Also a little hard to find as I recall.

recently saw “the 100 year old man who…” at this cool little theater…it was $6 wednesday matinee special…oy the crowd!!
