I visited this town a few summers ago and was disappointed to learn that the Lake is no longer in this quaint lake village.

Wish the Town of Palm Beach had preserved this historical theatre!

Sorry to read that “the balcony was recently enclosed and transformed into a separate auditorium.”

I was in Concord NC last night and will check out the address at 9 Union upon my return to see what is there now.

After reading about this historical theatre it is a shame that the interior was gutted….Evanston’s loss!

Just saw on FB an interior photo of this theatre under After the Final Curtain. Will this theatre be restored as it has an awesome exterior.

Such a shame the boxes were removed by the church.

“The Carolina Theatre‚Äôs facade, dismantled by the city in the late 1980s and stacked under the stage, will be placed on the front of the new lobby, facing Tryon.” I would like to see the new lobby based on the original design though it doesn’t exactly say that in the article. I would think that it would be based on the original so it would be in keeping with the original design in the auditorium. I have entered that space a few times and each time I am struck by how beautiful it must have been in its heyday. Congrats to the City of Charlotte and the Belk Foundation for realizing the importance of saving this historic theatre in uptown Charlotte.

Scott: I think this is addressed in the Charlotte Observer article. I do recall reading that the numbered facade pieces would be replaced.

I don’t, but it bears repeating that “It’s a shame that Nashville doesn’t still have this t theatre!”

It’s a shame that the late Whitney Houston who grew up in the Newark area and eventually was laid to rest there didn’t help save this theatre during her lifetime and illustrious career.

Was it the Liberty at 801 5th Avenue? Research tells me it may have been.

In the street view photo there looks to be another former theatre on 5th across the street and down. Anyone know?

Haven’t visited this link in awhile and was surprised to relearn the existence of this theatre in Slippery Rock PA. It is a shame that this theatre burned as it would continue to be a nice addition to a quaint college PA town.

Patsy commented about Center Theatre on Feb 28, 2014 at 11:49 am

What is the current status of this theatre? And have learned through research that this theatre had a vertical blade sign that read CENTER though it doesn’t seem to appear in any recent photo. Anyone have additonal information about this?
