By the way, thanks again for all the research and additions to this post, you guys are great! It was far to long that this theater didnt have a place on here, hats off to you guys…..
Awsome research! Yes club denim has been there for some time now. Although I no longer reside in Guelph I beleive it is still operational.
The outside of the building has to be preserved due to a Guelph bylaw which gives some hope that maybe someday, someone will come along and restore the theater, but it’s a long shot I’m sure.
In addition to the last comment I made, this may be the nicest theater I have ever been too in so many ways! I have yet to replicate the atmophere I found in this theater and probably never will.
You have to visit it to understand, but well worth the trip if you live in the region!
I remember watching “the Empire strikes back” at this theater and watching the original trailer for “the Shining” which scared me to death at the time. I was around 8 years old and I beleive that is why this theater stands out in my head.
We used to have a cottage in the area and I also went to see the original “Superman” there as well. Good times….
I spent many a Friday night at the Rio back in the late eighties. They used to have the trio at the Rio and was one of the last good grindhouse theaters around. Many people think of this theater as an adult theater, but it was truley more…..
Yes, Odeon, I didnt make the distinction, sorry. I now have the pictures I spoke about. When cinema treasures allows uploads again, I will post them.
I Just wanted to make sure the theater had a place in here. I cant inagine Guelph without the Odeon being mentioned! Thanks for the further info…. Cheers!
