Gee buckyclown….I think your comment is pretty harsh…..
I just watched WILD HOGS at the little old theater the other night. It was warm and comfortable. This little theater is really rather charming. Inside you can see pictures of movie theater staff from times past in costumes that had to do with the feature movies theme. You have to step down a couple of steps to into the restrooms that are guarded by nice old railing. They even still have the original “occupied” door latches on the bathrooms. I would say that even for a theater that hasn’t had tons of money put into it, this little theater is in pretty good shape. It could probably use a good scrub, and some new paint, otherwise i think its fine. Fortuna is a town of 10,000. I can’t imagine that this little theater is a big money draw, since Eureka about 20 miles away has 2 big theaters. It does manage to still keep young and old alike happy within the community. I would think this little theater is kept open out of love for the community not for the income potential. In fact I think this little theater is in as good of shape as it is because of being located in a nice little community. It seems to me that there should be some sort of local antiquity(?) loans or grants available to refurbish great little theaters such as this one, so that they can keep up to code and keep the doors open. If ever in town I will buy the popcorn……..which doesnt come in bags….its popped fresh and is always hot. :))

Hiya Folks!!
I worked around the corner from this lovely for about 5 years enduring all the parking tickets hahahaa….I am glad that the work continues on the old theater… it was neeto to be in the back alley and see the likes of Merle Haggard pull up in his tour bus and later come out to take a smoke umm i mean a breather lololol….anyway I am glad that the old gal is being used again…I do believe its been 5 years since they started holding the Dixyland Jazz festival activities there… and the occasional movie. I think there was a mistake earlier when someone said the movie closed in 1987 though… I saw Silence of the Lambs in 1991 for sure at this theater…I have to admit the theater had seen better days but it was open. I hope people continue to love it and take care of it….we have another theater just outside of Eureka that is just rotting away….its more modern than the Eureka theater…seems such a waste to have it just sitting there.

Saw saturday night fever in that theater more times than i can remember chaining up my bike to the street sign on the side of the driveway on the side hahaaaa and pretending i was old enough to be going in to see that movie!!! I am amazed that the Deanza sign withstood all of those harsh Santa Ana winds. It was a lovely theater.

I grew up just off of Market St in Riverside. I rode the carrousel at Fairmont Park, rented paddle boats there. It was a beautiful park. I used to go and get lip gloss at the five and dime and then escape the summer heat in the old Mission Inn. I climbed Mt Rubidoux and actually made it to the cross at the top. And I had my very first boy girl date at the Fox we saw a double header of King Kong and Jaws. I saw Starwars there and all of its sequels, Saturday Night Fever and Grease. The Fox was a very important part of my life. I used to go to a little vintage clothing store located between the fox and the Pussycat Theater ( still to this day that name makes my face flushed hahahaaaa) I am so very pleased that the Fox is going to be given its due and restored into its very grand stature. I can recall the velvet curtains that used to be closed when the movie started and the great big curtain that drew open when it was showtime. These are all part of my memories and I am sure the memories of thousands of others. I would love to be there for its opening night…….thanks to all that will make it grand once again.
