They demolished the Orleans 8!

posted by Jakes theater news!!! on February 27, 2008 at 7:45am

PHILADELPHIA, PA — I can’t believe they demolished my neighborhood theater, the Orleans 8. The theater was falling apart anyway. I heard from a reliable source that they’re going to close Franklin Mills Mall and Donald Trump will buy the property and build another casino. That’s my favorite mall. They’re going to build a Target in place of the Orleans 8, with Pepboys, and the other shops on that lot.

Donald Trump is not going to buy the Franklin Mills and turn it into a casino. The stadium seated AMC movie theater there continues to operate.

The AMC Orleans Theatre's Auditorium #1 to 4 (The former William Goldman's Orleans Theatre) has been demolished since December 2007. The AMC Orleans Theatre Auditorium #5 to 8 still stands, due to the fact that AMC Orleans #5 to 8, and Pep Boys Auto share the same building (A former Shop Rite/Pathmark Supermarket)

Will the side of the other building that is 5-8 become a dollar store, or will the Pepboys and other stores around front extend back?
Franklin mills will eventually close, maybe soon because the stores arn't making enough buisness, or are being robbed.
Reply with a good answer!!!

Donald trump wants to buy the property, Once the mall closes, He May Buy the property and build a casino, But I hope he doesn't.

Are you making this up as you go along starting with the Trump casino?

Define "robbed" since it is an indoor mall with security. I doubt it means armed robbery.

are you saying now that your first reliable source was wrong?

That article is from a year and a 1/2 ago. Since then, Simon Propteries acquired The Mills Corp.

Why would they take commerical realestate and turn it into residental....look at the tax money the township would be losing....Come on Jake...get with the program!
posted by JohnMessick on Mar 1, 2008 at 11:53am
Its a big property, you got a point, but they might build hotels and casinos!!!
posted by Jakes theater news!!! on Mar 3, 2008 at 2:23pm
Hotels make more money and so do casinos.
posted by Jakes theater news!!! on Mar 3, 2008 at 2:24pm
True....The township would be looking at it from a tax standpoint.

The PA Gaming Board won't allow Philadelphia to have a 3rd Casino, as they are allowed to only have 2. Also, the PA Gaming Board won't put a casino 1 mile away from another casino (the other is Philadelphia Park Casino and Racetrack).

Also, Simon Properties owns Franklin Mills Mall now. It is now a sister mall to Oxford Valley Mall and the King of Prussia Mall Complex.

Pepboys is going to be demolished, see!!!!, So are all the other stores to make room for the massive target and its parkinglot!!!
posted by Jakes theater news!!! on Mar 4, 2008 at 2:26pm
Since Target have stopped opening their Target Greatland stores a few years ago, I would presume it would be a regular Target. It won't be a Super Target, since there is a A&P/Super Fresh Super Store just across the street from the former William Goldman's Orleans Theatre site.

Also, The Pep Boys/Orleans 5-8 building will be demolished once the new Pep Boys building is built.

So the new pepboys is opened, so thats means the back building of orleans 5-8 & old pep boys building will finally be knocked down.
They put up the walls for target, it is gonna be huge.
