Classic Film Theaters in New Jersey and New York?

The Chelsea Cinemas on 23rd St. in Manhattan shows classic movies every Thursday night, always with a funny hosted pre-show:

Bow Tie Criterion Cinemas in New Haven, CT hosts "Movies & Mimosas" every Saturday and Sunday at 11:00AM, and "Insomnia Theater" every Friday and Saturday nigth at 11:30PM. Seats are $5; $4 if you're a Criterion Club Member.

Edgewater shows a "classic" film every Monday afternoon, but I have it on good authority the films are from public domain DVD's, not 35mm.

Hey....I wish there was a theatre that showed classic films once a week here in the Boston area!

sometimes the Succasunna cinema does show a classic movie...I hope they bring it back so I can see an old movie at one of my favorite theaters!! Too bad Rockaway doesn't do that, although they show year old kiddie movies as part of the Summer Camp program.

The Coolidge Corner Theatre, the Brattle Theatre, and, occasionally, the Somerville Theatre all show oider classic films from time to time, but not on a weekly basis, although the Brattle shows a great deal of older films.

IFC Center has reissues and they also regularly show classics on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in conjunction with the Criterion Collection. They (and Landmark's Sunshine) have midnight programs on Friday and Saturday. The Clearview Classics festivals aren't running right now, but they also ran at the Clairidge and Chelsea (which gets a lot of eclectic programing). Often times the prints and the soundtracks were beat up - Film Forum is the gold standard in that sprints are often struck just for them (and their membership is a great deal).

I wish I could get the owner of the 2760 seat Ritz Theatre in Elizabeth N.J. to see what a gem he has and do classic series of movies. I've been trying for the better part of 3 years, with no luck. But I keep hoping.

movie534: Have you tried getting some of your friends, etc., to get behind you and then keep trying to get the owner of the Ritz Theatre to do any classic movie series? Just curious.

The classic film series at Edgewater is public domain films, meaning stuff your not gonna wanna see, unless you like the no name films from the 30's, 40's, 50's and maybe 60's. Something once in a while is good, but most of the time it's not worth it.
