Classic films return to former Carolina Theater

posted by CWalczak on September 16, 2009 at 7:38am

LUMBERTON, NC — The Carolina Civic Center, born in 1928 as the Carolina Theater, is now showing a series of classic films in addition to its other programming.

The movie is part of the “Gotta See It on the Big Screen’’ fall series. The purpose of the series, he said, is to show classic movies the way they should be seen - on the big screen.

“These are films that television screens don’t do justice,” said Sceiford, the center’s executive director.

Will films be shown in 35 mm, 2 k, 4 k or DVD/blue ray? the article says they bought a digital projector, but is 2001 available in 2 k or 4 k?

The film descriptions as posted on the theater's website all mention their digital system, so I'm guessing all the showings are digital, though they doesn't mention any detail beyond that.

Some of those titles are on Blu-ray, some aren't. None of them are available in D-Cinema as far as I know, so they're running consumer video. Sure hope they've gotten booking clearance for them movies.

"The point is that these films are designed to be seen on the big screen..." DVDs projected with a $20,000 digital projector is hardly the way these films were intended to be seen.

We have a Christe digital projector for DVDs that cost $90,000.00 dollars ( no joke)...That being said you can not run a theater on that ..You must have 35 mm or "real' digital.

Sounds like a Dream Come True!! All the best of luck to the patrons and the people who run this theatre!

If it were up to me, I say 35MM is the way they should be shown, but I know its fighting a losing battle, so why bother anymore.

I agree with you, movie534. I think that regular 35mm film is the way that great movies should be shown.

Movies were not meant to be seen on the BIG SCREEN with a cheap digital projector - lol - and a home BOSE sound system. I certainly wouldn't be showing up to see this cheap presentation. Don't wonder why it doesn't work out.
