Odeon Bradford

4 September 1929: this aerial view captures the New Vic in early stages of construction. The fan shape of the vast auditorium and the rakes of the the shallow circle and balcony are sketched out in steelwork. Old property on Thornton Road (left) has yet to be demolished to make way for the block with the restaurant on the ground floor and the ballroom above.

To the right of the New Vic site, the three domes of the Alhambra are visible with the three roof-elements for the circle/balcony block, auditorium block and stage. The roof ridge of the Bradford Picture House runs parallel to Great Horton Road (to the left of the Alhambra site).

In the bottom left is the Empire with the hotel building on Great Horton Road.

Just left of top centre is the white façade of the Picture House and Forum Cafe.
