The derelict Essoldo awaiting demolition in the mid 1970’s. As can be seen it was a tiny cinema and one that Essoldo neglected for many years before it finally closed in 1969.

My father told me that, whilst very small, Essoldo upgraded the place upon acquiring it in either the late 1940’s or early 1950’s. They had tried to buy the Hippodrome but Thompson’s would not sell so I suppose the tiny old Picture House was at least an outlet for them.

Ironically it survived the Hippodrome by seven years!
