Hundreds of fans gather outside the appropriately chosen State cinema in New Bedford, Massachusetts, for the Gala World Premiere of 20th Century-Fox’s “DOWN TO THE SEA IN SHIPS”, starring Richard Widmark; Lionel Barrymore and Dean Stockwell, on the evening of Tuesday, February 15th, 1949. There were personal appearances on the night by Richard Widmark and Cesar Romero. The film opened in New York City a week later.
