Burt’s Theatre - whether showing live plays, vaudeville or films - always was “for all the people.” (picture) It was not a high class establishment and showed sentimental melodramas for the middle class at opening in 1898 or when it tried vaudeville and film (ad at bottom). Later, it became a nightclub, Duane’s Peppermint Lounge in the 1960s (ad at left).
