Odeon Star Theatre, Parade Norwood.
The parade is now a long upmarket tree-lined shopping and restaurant strip, and has always been one of the most important suburban retail areas in Adelaide. This view shows the Star Theatre at which as a child I gazed with longing from my grandparents' house across the road. It was re-named ‘Odeon Star’ when the Rank organization took over the Star theatre circuit. The projection room of the huge Norwood Town Hall can be seen behind the clock tower. The hall, at first floor level, has a sizeable stage and was used by Star Theatres at weekends to give an alternative programme to that showing at the Star. There was another large hall beneath.
