20th-Fox sent its most expensive biblical spectacle into release in August to avoid collision with MGM’s “Quo Vadis,” which was due for deluxe roadshow treatment later in the year. The latter opened in NYC at the Astor (reserved seats) and the Capitol (continuous), the same houses that had shared “Gone With the Wind” in 1939.
