Still open as of 2003:

The Star-Ledger (Newark, NJ), Feb 17, 2003 p017
Theaters no longer hot spots for porn; Videos speed demise of Jersey XXX houses. (NEW JERSEY)
Byline: ALICIA GREY

Danny Ganota knows his days of showing pornography on the silver screen are numbered.

Fewer people have been coming into Ganota's Little Theater on Broad Street in Newark as the proliferation of pornography in videos, DVDs and on the Internet has made going to a XXX theater an anachronistic activity.

"We're on our last legs. It's all over for us," Ganota said. "A year or two and that's it." .......

The Little Theater is one of the few adult movie theaters still left in New Jersey. Those that survived into the 1990s have closed in the last few years or are on the verge of closing.

Listed in the 1951 FDY as an art theater, one of only 2 in NJ.

The profile is incorrect - this theatre is anything but closed.
It is open everyday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Admission costs 8 dollars.

It is especially crowded on weekends (in the early afternoon).

While the main screen is showing "straight" XXX, the majority
of men who visit here clearly have other "activities" in mind.

Everyone is saying that home video viewing is taking the place of the
theatre-going experience. However, for the "regulars" who frequent
places like this, they are obviously no substitute for the real thing.

My, things have been very quiet here.
I am here to ask a question, since I live just south of the Linden airport, I used to frequent Cinema 9 on Route 9.
Does anyone know of a place similar in activity to Cinema 9, preferable in central or south New Jersey?
I really miss that place.

Here's a piece of trivia that I'm sure none of you knew, the Motion Picture Machine Operators Union ran their local out of the 2nd floor of this theater and it's funny not only did they represent the projectionists at a few porn houses but also at most if not all of the major theater chains in Northern New Jersey including Cineplex Odeon, General Cinema and United Artists. Prior to moving to Newark the union was based in an adjacent office in the projection booth at the Millburn Theater in Millburn which I believe was around 1986-1987. The union has since been disbanned.

My old local was the same misterrick. I worked at 2 porn houses, and 2 General Cinemas, as well as an independent, all at the same time. One day here, one day there. Thats how us youngins used to make our money in the late 70's and early 80's.

Hello everyone. I'm a writer working on a story for a blog about both The Cameo and Little Theater. I was hoping to find folks who've frequented/visted one or both of these places so I can interview them, using pseudonyms to maintain eveyrone's anonymity, of course. Any inside scoop or juicy stories about past visits are welcome.

Thanks.
