Not to be confused with the City Cinema Twin in Coop City, this was located on the City Island section of the Bronx.

The City Island Theater is listed in the Film Daily Yearbook, 1926 edition has having 250 seats. It has disappeared from the listings in the 1930 edition of F.D.Y.

Could this theater have re-opened or possibly been replaced with a larger theater? A February 1970 c/o shows a 600 seat motion picture theater at the above address. It was an existing building. Another c/o dated February 1972 shows the same 600 seat theater located here.

This is listed in early Film Daily Year Books as the Raymond Theatre, with 587 seats. The same postcard that is displayed in yesterday's link also appears in a recent pictorial book about City Island, where the theatre is also identified as the Raymond.

I was there on Saturday. It's on the right side going away from the bridge and is an IGA. The above picture is in the entranceway, hung up. It's a beautiful building. It seems once it closed, they stripped away the paint to reveal the beautiful symmetrical features of the stone and red brick building. Much nicer, indeed. Great masonry.

In 1969 this seems to have been known as New City Island

A Robert-Morton theater organ was installed in the City Island Theater in 1927.

Here's a 1941 image as the Raymond Theatre. Is the building still being used as a supermarket?

This 1941 photo of the Raymond Theater is slightly larger.
